JULZ,
Why are you asking that question here, when you work with the master one-man builders?

...these are not the droids you're looking for.

Also, I know it's your BOYFRIEND's dad... no shame.

Love, goto

Make the iako's longer and trial the canoe on water with temporary attachment. Many things will affect the trim of the Ama including weight. Trial and error is best way.

an exellent way to do your messuraments is from the middle of the hull to the middle of the ama, and thats anything betwen 1.16mts to 1.26mts. ups, no metric sytstem ah....

i think it somthing betwen 48 and 52 inches..

good luck.

49 your right I measured it once a while ago or there about. just to make things interesting how would you find the angle of the ama in relation to the canoe in height, maybe start with a straight bar an then move it up or down with wedges, between the canoe and ama? and would you want the canoe leaning or straight up in the final setting in use?

now, thats another ball game, the iako curve are a result of the combo betwen the hull and the ama design.

i mean when i did my hull design i had clear vision of what i wanted and how i wanted the ama to flow aside, then the last step was joining both trough iakos.

i set the hull in saddels and the ama on the side just as i liked to be while in the water, then bought a pipe bender machine, and started playing aroung, hours went by a few aluminnum pipes went away.....and after a bit they were just cherry!!

double checked on a swimming pool a few times and lets go to the test run!!!

aloha and be patient, very patient.

ps, Mulus, i guess if you have it set in the water without a paddler on top the hull should be slighty leaning to the ama side, when i say slighty i mean it, cause when you jump on it your weight will make the hull go under, level and the ama will float the same as before you were there.

only easy Mulus,
thats why we are a big OHANA, and Kokua its the only way...

in fact i forgot something, when you look at your rigged oc-1 from the front the hull and the ama aren´t paralel, if we agree that the weight of a paddler gonna make the hull go down in the water and the ama will float the same, then there is a slight diference in the angle of the ama bottom closer to the hull than the its top part. maybe i should make a drawing if you need.

a different story is looking at your oc-1 in an aereal view,(from the top) both hull and ama are perfect paralel to each other, you dont want the ama driving the hull eaither left or right....

going back to the front view, your hull must be level with the paddler on top, the ama should we level while the paddler is on top of the hull, that makes you have it pre set the ama with the extra couple of degrees angle as i mentioned before, and this will be guaranted by the iako curve aswell......

hope it helps....

aloha!
