Use of Legs in Outrigger??

If I am paddling on the right I would assume you drive your heel down (not sure which one) or somthing to that effect to lock yourself into the boat. In my boat if I push on my heels they slide up the slick footwells to the rudder pedals. The place where my heels rest is at too shallow an angle to brace against, so I dont really have a way to lock myself in. I dont notice any problem, but if I am missing something I probably would not know it. If anyone could describe what (if anything) to do with the lower body during the stroke, much appreciated!

Thanks

You need to read the "Power Circles" by Imre Kemecsey
Download these files which are hosted on my Blog in the Knowledge Section and be prepared to be in awe of this mans knowledge.

Find some thin minicell foam from a kayak shop, cut to shape and glue pads on the footwell where your heal lands up to the hinge for the rudder pedals. Not only will it provide you with a non-slippery surface, it'll be warmer in cold and add some comfort. Some folks add another layer or two underneath arch area for better ergonomics.

Sounds good, would have never thought of that. Apperciate the advice. I think it would be nice to have the feet solid.

Shawn you gotta get your feet solid. Maybe you need to adjust your seating. Are you too far forward or back? Find a position where your heels are the anchor points to your boat.

How to pull with legs: with one hand imagine pulling a door knob on a door that is stuck. Now put your foot up against the wall next to the door and pull as hard as you can using your foot and leg as leverage. You find that your arm isn't doing anything except holding the door knob. Thats as simple as I can explain it.

Poops on you

I think my seat is a bit too far back so when I push with my heels my feet just slide up onto the rudders. I see your example. I would be pushing more on my right leg to brace when I when I paddle right?

Thank you.
