Chafing!

So this is the most embarrassing questions ever, but I have to ask because I am not sure what to do or if anyone else has been inflicted with this ever persistent irritating problem. I paddle OC1 at least 3-4 times a week. I own a Nai’a Iki. Every time, I go on a long paddle, I get severe derriere chafing. Just like when those marathoners run long runs and get chaffing in between their legs and in their armpits, I get chafing from, I’m assuming, the friction of me moving back and forth as I paddle and the way I sit on my seat. I have always worn spandex or some sort of water friendly shorts. I never have any problems in the OC6. I think it might be the seat as I used to paddle older Nai’a and never had this problem. Anyway, it keeps getting worse and I would really hate to get a staff infection on my butt crack. Sounds funny now, but I am sure it would really suck. Has anyone else encountered this problem?? Any suggestions?

I have always worn under armor spandex like underwear under my board shorts and never had any problems

Makua you are not alone. Thousand of paddlers every year are afflicted with chafing. One in 2 paddlers will suffer from chafing in their lifetime. Lucky a variety of products are available to help ease the symptoms. Body glide, runner's lube, or plain vaseline. Side effects may include but are not limited to slipping on seat, slimy hands and an intense urge to masturbate while using products.

Try contacting Lindsay @ JL Racing. She was working with our club on developing a double layer trou specifically for paddling.

Vegemite works too. Has the added benefit of cell rejuvenation.

Body Glide works wonders and comes in a convenient deodorent-type stick. You can find at triathlon stores. Good luck..we share your pain!

rachel's right. (As is everyone else.) But instead of just Vaseline, I prefer CHOKE Vaseline.

Rambo, do you apply the Vegemite directly to your goolies?

I FIND A PAIR OF EXCEL NEOPRENE PADDLING SHORTS WITH A PAIR OF BIRDWELL BEACH BRITCHES SHORTS ON TOP OF THAT WORKS WELL. THE BIRDWELL SHORTS ARE DOUBLE LAYERED WHICH REDUCES THE FRICTION AS ONE LAYER SLIDES ON THE OTHER. SOMETIMES I SKIP THE NEOPRENE AND JUST USE THE BIRDWELLS IF THE RUN IS A SHORT ONE.

i prefer the use of massive amounts of capital letters mixed with vaseline... it's still the original and best.

Rambo, clearly more needs to be done to spread the word on all the possible uses of Vegemite.

VEGEMITE!!!!!!

Absolutely KD, you can clearly see the effects of Vegemite on this person. Imagine redirecting all that wasted energy and attitude into paddling. At the end she says "eating Vegemite is like having a food orgasm", what a little cutie.

Told you this stuff is Magical, and it's legal.

And this Vegemite abuser is trying to discredit Aussies to keep the secret to himself. Even PooPoo gets a mention.
