unless fuze lives in some temporal space time anomoly, the race is today... looks like conditions are good... check mindy's site for updates.. http://outriggercanoe.blogspot.com/

she has live updates from her cell phone.. it wasn't working on the site for me, you might have to click on the "mobile post" link to hear it.

Mahalo, Cho! That's a great idea by Mindy.

Just came to post the link that Dacho put up. Everyone racing today will have huge smiles on their faces. The wind's blowing about 15-20 kts from the right direction. I think it's the first time in years, if ever, there's been good wind.

bet the paddlers are stoked there are some bumps for once...

#5 Sun, 03/30/2008 - 10:52am

Danny and Steve Sinkus won the mens. New record: 4:51. Second place was more than 8 minutes behind. (at 8 minutes, no sight of 2nd place)

#6 Sun, 03/30/2008 - 1:08pm

Congrats to all the competitors, sounds like Danny Ching and Steve Sinkus set a new record 4:51:44. (of note to Jim, sounded like Banfield/Goto were in 3rd place earlier in the race...)

#7 Sun, 03/30/2008 - 1:09pm

Is it really that obvious what a Goto lover I am?

#8 Sun, 03/30/2008 - 1:23pm

It's okay to love your Goto, just don't *love" your Goto.

#9 Sun, 03/30/2008 - 3:56pm

Danny and Steve Sinkus 4:51
Jack Roney and Ryan Dolan 17 minutes behind
Jim John Foti Close behind jack and ryan
Scott Granger Thomas Shanian few minutes behind
Two Canadians (larry and somebody?? sorry guys we only met briefly)
Markie and Eric
Goto and Justin 5:22 ish
Will R and Gavin Miller 5:24

and thats all I know for now.

Race was great even though my time was slower than last year. Plenty of bumps (for california standards). Little chilly but fun.

Thanks Chris for hosting another great race. I have absolutely no complaints.

#16 Mon, 03/31/2008 - 3:22am

All the pics Ive seen so far are from inside the harbor. Anyone have pics of the channel?

#17 Mon, 03/31/2008 - 6:25am

G
The conditions were fun and challenging at times when the wind died mid channel. The course was fast, but in my opinion not as fast as '05. Danny and Steve had an amazing run to set the record. Congrats boyz!
Here a few photos of Thomas and I from our escort (Hope this works)

#18 Mon, 03/31/2008 - 8:55am

since danny and steve broke their record from last year by 4 minutes in much better conditions, i'm curious how changes made from the boat in rough conditions affected the times... doubt it affected the rankings but may be a factor in the gaps? maybe? maybe not?

but definitely different than water changes in warm water... say 10-20 seconds per change lost, at least, than in flat water, much less water changes.

just curious..

Yo,
I just want to thank all the people down in California who made my relay experience A BLAST:
First and foremost, much mahalos to Justin Banfield, for being the fastest partner I've ever had.
Danny Ching and Kamanu Composites, for talking me into racing, and organizing my trip. Especially to Danny and Tiare for showing me around Avalon, and letting me third wheel 'em ALL DAY LONG. Thanks Luke, Kelly, Keizo, et al for making such fast one-mans!
Ross Flemmer, for picking me up at the airport and giving me a place to stay the night - your mom makes some tasty bacon and eggs!
Josh Banfield and Carter Johnson, for 1) being some awesome karaoke singers, 2) for knowing how to give and take some punches, 3) for leaving me with "the talker".
Chris O'Kieffe, for putting on a killer race, enforcing the crap out of the starting line, and getting the wind and waves behind us.
Wendy and Sara, for being down at the finish line, and the "play date" after the awards party.
Bryan Mack, for picking my ass up at 5:30am and getting me to LAX in time for my flight home.
...and to all the other awesome/fast/friendly paddlers I met down in CA - I love all of you guys.

And to Steve, my escort boat driver, thanks for nothing.

You better come back next year so that we can race without boatfuls of water...I guess the hole in the side of your boat kinda cancelled out my boat losing the plug though haha...
