That’s all I can remember right now. Kanaka should have it up soon. I hope I didn’t make a mistake…I’m tired!

A better place to view the results would be at the Kanaka Ikaika website. The Advertiser’s results are incomplete. The times in the short course are wrong for the 2mans at Kanaka’s website, tho. I did the Mixed 2man with my husband and we beat everyone except Mark Buck on a ‘ski. The times show us at nearly 2 hours and coming in behind all the rudderless and onemans. We were second to the beach…it took about 30 minutes less time than what is posted. Typo…I am sure.
Perhaps some of the short course leaders from the different divisions could send in their times if they have them. This would help to sort out the posted vs real time confusion. The time I had on my Garmin was over 25 minutes faster than the posted time for me, so I am sure the same would apply for most paddlers. Also, the top rudderless paddlers (who I admire) were shown to be faster than all of the top OC2, OC!, and surfski paddlers by over 10 minutes. I believe the first rudderless was around 3rd overall. With the different calculaitons my minutes per mile would go from 11.25 per mile to under 8.5 per mile. Mahalo to Kanaka Ikaika for all of the hard work,
Mark Buck
really inspiring but also frusterating to be so slow and so utterly far off the radar screen, LOL. Keep on working!
I wish there were more pics/vids from the race. Pretty amazing that the oc-1 and surfski times are just a few minutes apart. I see some surf-ski guys around and they seem so fast…I wonder if the surf is an equalizer to some degree and the gap would be larger in a flat water contest.
Good observation Shawn Michael, it is amazing how fast Jr. and the other top OC1 padlers can go when the surfing is good, even when its not good. As far as surf being a time equalizer , I would generaly agree but, the very top skiers dont seem to get slowed up much by rough water. Molokai solo is shaping up to be a pretty exciting race……. http://maineoutriggerchampionships.blogspot.com/
A lighter more efficient boat with less drag and the fast cadence of the stroke on the double blade seem that that gap with the skis would be more than a few minutes over such a long course.
Yeah , on flat water this would be the case . But in the ocean with all the other factors going on , wind , waves, turbulence, plus all the extra bracing strokes required to stay on the boat ,would slow the surfskier a little.
If you had a drag race between a top skier and a top oc paddler on totally flat water . The ski paddler would win every time.
OC`s are more in their element when conditions get big.
Jr. is fast, maybe the fastest in the surf. Lately, Jr. is the only paddler winning with an OC connection 1 man in Hawaii. Cant be the chines. Dont think chines really make a difference. You just have to be a great paddler like Karel Jr.. He will smash no matter what boat he is on..

I don
t think so in this case , conditions werent really pushing all that much with the crossing wind.Chine effect tends to come into play at speeds higher than 9.
Must have been Jr. this time….. :) :) :)
