Molokai Virgins.

Myself and a few mates are coming from Australia to Hawaii to compete in the second Molokai solo(we had already booked flights etc before the new race)
Now it seems from here that the actual paddling will be the easy part compared to the logistics of trying to organise canoes support boats etc,
Im sure its the same for you when and if you come over for Hammo (and hopefully you will one day) so any one with any usefull tips or leads that might help illuminate the task would be greatly appreciated.ie, I paddle a Pegasus here and may have secured the hire of a Scorpiusso how do they differ? I'M only light and worry that it may be too bulky, but is the seat attachment the same , velcro strip so that I can attach my custom bum hugger?
Any Molokai accom tips.
Where is a good place to eat in Waikiki?
Will I be able to rent an OC1 for a few days prior to the race on Oahu?
If any of you are planning on coming out to Hammo I would be more than happy to return any assistance or favours
Anyway , I find this forum and its contributors very informative and ecclectic but that Rambo character is out there what a dude,
Thanks for any help
Am looking forward to my imminent Hawaiian experience

i don't think Toni Roma's qualifies as the immenent Hawaiian experience.
try check out Rainbows Drive-In and get a loco moco.
3308 Kanaina Ave., just off of Kapahulu Ave.

Kevlon,

Are you sure you are from Australia? I thought everyone from Australia had cool, kick butt names like-Rambo, Thor, Hercules, Odin, Axe, Smash, or Tiger..... ;) However Kevlon is still pretty cool.

You Must eat at "Zippy's" Cheap, local, and a tradition. Don't expect any fresh spinach or broccolli at Zippy's. Also don't order like this-

"Hi Mate. My name is Godzilla. You can call me God!. I am from Aussie! Get me some Vegemite on Toast. Now!"

You will get beat up faster than you can say "Lifted Toyota with Hawaiian Flag from Westside."

To be helpful, surfski.info has a nice piece about first time Molokai racers

Cheers

Kevlon,

I know how you feel going over to hawaii to race for the first time its hard stuff to get everything you need. My first piece of advice would be make sure you have a car with racks to drive around. Second would be to contact the local boat builders on Oahu, if you give them enough heads up they would probably be able to hook you and you mates up with a canoe or two.

On the topic of molo accom, yeah well I dont really have any there for you but if you figure it out tell me. But getting around there should be a rent a car that you can pay a little extra to just leave down at the start of the race. People do camp down on the sand in the little bay next to the start line.

Any food is good food when your hungry. Try Auntie Pastas

Ra Ra Ramen on Kapahulu (I think) or any ramen place. Get the kimchee ramen.

The best sleep i ever had before a molokai crossing was on the tee box overlooking the beach at Kaluakoi. Just bring a two man tent and your set. There's a shower right nest to the pool that the Villas use. Make sure you bring your rainfly though, the sprinklers turn on at about 2 or 3 in the morning.

If you don't all ready have an escort boat you may be SOL. Most are booked by now.

If you are looking for a pleasant dining experience, try either Femme Nu or Rock-Za. Both are located on Kapiolani Blvd. Near the convention center and Ala Moana shopping center. Great appetizers at both places. But they only take cash.

femme nu and rock za are excellent choices. I think they have award winning exotic food. quite tasty. They even have private rooms for special occasions. Its a shame they only take cash but I don't see how credit cards would work.

Just run your card through the slot - stripe side IN, of course!

Lucky you. Scored a Scorpius! How much do you weigh? If under 90 kilos maybe Pegasus would be better but if the Trades are booming, you'll have fun on the Scorpius. Contact Simeon Ke Paloma on Oahu for help arranging a Pegasus to borrrow on Oahu. Think about the Kauai World Challenge the weekend before MoloSolo-good fun. Good luck and watch out for goto abd jc9_0- dangerous!
