Too Many Kids Posting Comments

I love this site, but it's incredible the number of nonsense comments that a few air head guys post here everyday. A big mahalo to all the paddlers who post good information on this site. After all this site was created to keep well informed the paddling community around the world.

Submitted by Harry on Wed, 04/16/2008 - 3:58am

Au contraire, Keizo himself tells me that he created this site to be the personal verbal playground of Goto, Jc9, and others. The paddling information disseminated here is just a sideshow.

I agree with Harry. Let's abolish everything that's entertaining or funny because 1) it may offend someone, and 2) it interferes with all the information sharing. From now on: hard, raw data ONLY.
Please be sure to submit all future posts to either Harry or myself for approval. Especially all you airhead guys.

APPROVED BY GOTO 9:10AM APRIL 16, 2008

"Harry is right!

I have pleaded with Keizo to make a OCPaddler for kids only and another one for smart, data driven adults. I have also sent private messages to all of the offending "silly" posters. It is time to start the revolution.

You are right this site needs to reflect the "paddling community" When I go to races, I don't hear any joking, fibbing, non-sense, and near profanity before or after races. If I do hear it, I demand that it is stopped, because we need to share information about races and canoes faster and clearer for all.

My only concern is that your post won't be taken seriously, and it needs to be."

I like it all here at OC Paddler, humor , sarcasm , wit , truth .

The latter comes mostly from me. Not only that but, we aren`t really annonymous posters here . We are all identifiable by avatars. wether they be feces or super heros.

Those of you that don`t have avatars need to come out in the open .

Harry
Pretty gutsy post. I sure hope none of the "airheads" know you. I'd hate it if your canoe got covered in poop, lotion, chines, etc.

#5 Wed, 04/16/2008 - 7:06am

Alright, Fuzie....there's my avatar. Poop, sharks and Mike Bolton were taken, dammit.

#6 Wed, 04/16/2008 - 7:46am

wow harry, either you are incredible dense or have huge balls.

#7 Wed, 04/16/2008 - 8:14am

Well some of it is funny, and some of it is utter drivel. Nothing wrong with the humour, but I do kinda feel sorry for those who are looking specific info on something, only to have the thread taken over by 'humourous' posts. Perhaps Keizo could be so kind as to set up a separate section on product reviews (user submitted) and not as a forum, but which could cover canoes (most of the questions seem to relate to this), paddles, hydration systems, or whatever. That way, if some newbie has a legimate question, he/she can be directed easily to this section, leaving the forum free for the comedians.
Just a thought, and I know I'm sticking my neck out here making a logical and reasonable suggestion like this.

Ka kite.

In all seriousness, (really!)
I have nothing against anyone who wants to have a serious question answered, or discussion here. I actually HAVE posted a serious reply or two! But at the same time, THIS IS THE INTERNET. Anyone in the world can post here - anonymously or not. There are some generally accepted internet forum rules, and outside of that... hey, it's called the first amendment, folks. Some topics have been discussed to death, admittedly with many posts being "humorous" and "un-informative". But the question-askers can read or ignore any answer they want to. Some (apparently) can't help but get offended by them. Oh, well.
Like Kona J said, paddlers, (like the ones you see at races/regattas/etc.) can be a fun, loud, opinionated, joking-around bunch. Not everyone agrees with everyone else, and not everyone has to. There are some really smart, talented paddlers here on OCP.com, and I for one am glad to have "met" them all. Some irritate me, so I ignore them, (key concept here, people.) Some tell me I have to be serious, so I'm not. It's really that simple.

#9 Wed, 04/16/2008 - 10:05am

We don't have the first amendment in this country - we do have the death penalty though... so not too disimilar to the US really.

laughter is medicine
god has humour he made a male sexual peak 17 and a women’s 32, he made giraffes, he put our nose above our mouth. He put our balls on the outside. He created the platypus. Zebra, if we cant laugh at our selves, who we going to laugh at?

I was watching 300 and that girl was floating for the oricals in the moon light and at the right angle you could see on her back, in the moon light a Chine .

#11 Wed, 04/16/2008 - 10:44am

"god has humour he made a male sexual peak 17 and a women’s 32"
Hahahaha.....ahem. I can assure I got it "going on" alot more at 43 than I did at 17.............but thats just me.

With your permission , I`ll have your profile page ready for the paddling community by this time tommorrow.

Aloha ,

I looked through my old posts and I have gotten a lot of help and only a few poo-pooings. Just about anything you could learn in print or video is here in the archives or in rambos site without which I would have my boat rigged totally crooked, have radical trench butt from chafing and be on IV drip for crack staph paddling with a 56 inch steering paddle since I think Im super strong. I will probably ask more dumb questions but look forward to loggin on.

#14 Wed, 04/16/2008 - 12:04pm

Goto
Wow, that second post is a whole new side of you.

#15 Wed, 04/16/2008 - 12:27pm

Yeah Shawn, the info's all there at OC Paddler, it's just a task to try find it quickly and most people find it easier to ask again rather than search and then cop a "here we go again" response. It can be annoying when the same question pops up all the time. I think we need to be tolerant with first time posters though as not to discourage them.

The original purpose of the Rambo's Locker was to gather and hopefully present info in an easy to find format, but it's still difficult to find what is there in a reasonable amount of time.

I'm currently redoing the site to make it more user friendly with menus and pages more like a book and search functions that list the contents in relevance.

Cheers Rambo

#16 Wed, 04/16/2008 - 12:32pm

Here's what I have to say

  1. the second post was classic goto.
  2. stupid questions get stupid answers
  3. There is actually a lot of info in what seems like stupidity and "nonsense"
  4. what goes on here is a pretty accurate portrayal of what goes on at practices. So we're just carrying it over to this forum. People just get waaaaayy more defensive here than in the real world.
  5. I'm proud of my nonsensicalness and air headness.

#17 Wed, 04/16/2008 - 1:20pm

That was my point, cheers Rambo.

#18 Wed, 04/16/2008 - 1:26pm

Shawn you bring up a good point when you mention Rambos site. If one wishes to control what is posted and said they will have to create thier own blog/site.

#19 Wed, 04/16/2008 - 1:35pm

Geez, you guys, talk about misconstrue someone's comment - suggest you go back and reread the original comment.
I can't read anywhere in this thread where there was any kind of mention of censorship of any posts made here. The initial poster then got his head chewed off for making his opinion known.
Subsequent posts were about the possible creation of a product review page (or something) that could be easily navigated to, and which would avoid the same questions being asked time and again - prompting yet more responses which aren't always helpful.
Or have I missed something?

#20 Wed, 04/16/2008 - 1:54pm

Well if anyone relpiled to the original question that would go completely against the nonsensicalness which many of us here are so adamant about promoting.

This site is great, and there is good info on it (somewhere). I don't have anything against the idea of a product review page or any other pages being added...maybe even a page just for pole vaulting? What you think goto?

#21 Wed, 04/16/2008 - 2:07pm

Here's the thing: if people who write what they want to - whether it's what you want them to write or not - bother you, then I think you will spend much of your time here being irritated.

So yes, you ARE missing something. You may, or may not get your question(s) answered. People may, or may not understand what you are saying. People may, or may not think you are an idiot. Guess what? No matter what happens, you'll just have to live with it.

...or, like aquafiend65 said, make your own website. (If you do that, PLEASE let me know. From the sound of things it would be a blast to check out!)

And for the record, I'm down with starting a section just for pole vaulting.

#22 Wed, 04/16/2008 - 2:13pm

err, not sure what to say to that... my fault I guess for trying to be constructive. But Goto, for a guy who makes himself out to be a joker, you sure lost your sense of humour very quickly..

#23 Wed, 04/16/2008 - 2:21pm

I think we should all go have a beer an mull over the meaning of paddling, uh, I mean life....ah screw it. Let's just have the beer.

#24 Wed, 04/16/2008 - 2:39pm

You didn't think that was funny? Even with the pole vaulting comment?

#25 Wed, 04/16/2008 - 2:40pm

Actually credit where it is due - the pole vaulter was hot, definitely. Rambo's offering 'Tatiana', is a transplanted Russian, but that is typical for an Aussie to claim someone as their own - however that is an entirely new debate, and one which we can follow up on tommorrow (just kidding, Rambo!)
Mahalo for the banter... got me through an otherwise boring day at work, so it did all have some sort of purpose after all...
Off to go paddle now on my soft chined, keral built, scorpius slaying zephyr.

Cheers.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_forum

Scroll down...I think Harry is a "troll" he baited us all into this heated discussion. He also posted an irrelevant thread.

Poops

#27 Wed, 04/16/2008 - 3:38pm

Since I've lurked and posted here I've been rather impressed by the amount of honest attempts to help others. Plenty of info here even if you're too uninitiated to search effectively and ask the same 'ol questions...we've all been there and likely our answers change over time too... Take the ribbing and give some back for flavor I say.

Think of the forums in other sports you've likely experienced (most paddlers are multi-sports folks)...ever try making query's on a surfing forum?

Anyway, good fun. Communication without inflection has it's challenges, eh?

"the best way to handle islamo fascist sympathizers, hecklers and more"

lol.

#30 Wed, 04/16/2008 - 11:09pm

I'd like to know how to handle the petro-fascist sympathizers, myself.

#31 Thu, 04/17/2008 - 3:36am

Here I am at work towards the end of the day, and nothing picks be up better than some poopoo, or goto. I almost always get a laugh. We should be thankful they post here. I know I am. They take what we like to do and bring some fun to it. I honor them and applaud their ability to make us laugh.

#32 Thu, 04/17/2008 - 3:17pm

Thank you Piikea. You are awesome, I'll buy you a beer or 10 sometime. I'm sure goto will too but there might be strings attached.

#33 Thu, 04/17/2008 - 3:23pm

Love the site, some really good information and sharing of humor - some good and really really bad in a good sort of way. Lately way too much male oriented drivel about female paddlers and their body parts etc., maybe that's where the teen stuff comes in. Borina...I've been in construction for 20 years listening to the boys club crow. Keizo - maybe you can make a section for the panters so we women paddlers don't have to skip over 15 pages of drivel to get to the real stuff...and Rambo - way to go dude, I can tell you plan on growing up much later in life!!! LOL

Okay - I have no illusions about what's coming next!

#34 Thu, 04/17/2008 - 4:14pm

VB
"Male oriented drivel"? I've missed that. Lots of drivel, but I thought it was all asexual. And some of us don't plan on ever growing up.

#35 Thu, 04/17/2008 - 4:59pm

apologies VB
I'm a fan of the female gender

#36 Thu, 04/17/2008 - 8:58pm

VB, the answer is to get more women to post. Everyone gets tested here and if you can take the jab and then fire off a better shot it'll get you respect, no matter what your gender. Some fold under the pressure.......see the beggining of this thread.......and that only puts a target on you. Its really all done out of love. The boys here are just trying to toughen up ol Harry cuz its a cruel ugly world out there. Harry take my advice......chill out, eat humble pie, take your lickens and learn to laugh at yourself.

#37 Fri, 04/18/2008 - 8:48am

i don't see where harry said anything wrong... there IS a bunch of nonsense that get's posted... if you say that harry should toughen up, then maybe those who get worked up by harry saying there's nonsense should toughen up... and the idea that people need to be "tested", i wasn't aware that you need to be jumped in to be able to post.

that being said, who cares whether there's nonsense or not.

#38 Fri, 04/18/2008 - 9:07am

who is to say its the kids posting stupid comments? a good majority of people on here dont even put their age down of their profiles...

#39 Sat, 04/19/2008 - 4:50pm

Yeah, mandatory age verification for all posters.

#40 Sun, 04/20/2008 - 8:50am

Bunch of OCP MIA's in this thread.

aloha,
pog
