Here we go. I didn’t infer that you’re a techno dweeb for having to zone out while you paddle, just that I’m perfectly happy with the music my paddle, my canoe, and the water makes. You want me to pick some music to keep you happy. OK, off of Ice Cube’s Death Certificate - “The Wrong Niggah to F*ck Wit”.
I think it has very little to do with the “purest” sensibilities for me. You need to have all your senses 100% when paddling. While i can see listening to music if while working in the flat, or doing sprints, it has no place in a downwind run.

Aquafiend this was a previous thread. There are many many suggestions on here already.
To debate whether music is appropriate while paddling is purely person preference. I’ll tell you what though, one year we paddled the Molokai Hoe with music blasting from the escort boat. It was the best thing ever.
It got you in the groove especially in the really good downwind parts. But it was most valuable to help us through the grueling parts where you think you can’t go any further. But then when you hear “american women” blaring its all OK.

If someone did a thread about the zephyr and another comes along and says; “um, yeah I paddle a surfski “….isnt that kinda just an insy weensy bit arrogant and off subject? You’d think that the surfski dude would just not comment if he doesnt paddle a freakin zephyr. You’d think he’d respond to the silently paddling his surfski to the sounds of the ocean thread, right?

So one of the kids at my club was doing a time trial and he had Judas Priest, I think it was, on his. Ugh, I cant imagine. In that case I would definately prefer “silence”.
Here in Seattle, I always have No Quarter and the Immigrant Song by Led Zeppelin in my head. They fit the Ultra- Gloomy feel of an early morning here in the Northwest.

that’s one way to look at. it I hate when I’m talking and I get interrupted with something dumber than what I was going to say.
but another way to look at it is the wider base of your knowledge the faster you will go, so surf ski oc canoe kayak do them all take what you can and leave the rest. its the same in any sport take it and beat them with it well maybe not baseball when it comes to bat’s. I better shut up and sit down.
