race results

This is a question out of curiosity only but why does it take so long to get the actual results (name/place/time) from the races over the weekend? Or do I just not know where to find them?

Wow, guess I need to get a Zephyr. The finish clearly shows how the three newest boat designs compare to each other. Don't bother bringing up 2007, I am completely irrational and only the latest bit of news affects my decision process.

All kidding aside. Congrats to the Karel, Kai, and Maui.

it takes a while as the person who has to post the complete results also races and was just very tired after putting on a great race. It takes a lot of work and personal sacrifice to put on a major race. Manny K did a great job and by race day was physically pooped, raced and then headed up the post race event. Hats off to Manny- he was actually the champion of the day.

Peter hats off to you mate ya paddled faster then i did over the weekend...it was a great crossing with great friends...Manny your the shit bra !!!

Yeah it takes a while, I'd imagine you'd want to recheck the results like 50 times before posting cause paddlers are very unforgiving folk. they will rip you a new one if the results are wrong. So if I were race director, I'd take forever too.

totally understandable. I was also referring to the Maui race but thats too bad that Manny has to do the whole thing himself. Sure sais alot about the guy though!

Nope - It shouldn't be Mannys job to have to run around and post the results - but it is now almost 24hrs after the race, and those of us who have friends and loved ones who have flown in from elsewhere around the world to Hawaii to do the race would kinda like to know where they placed overall. The only results so far have been the top ten placings mentioned in the article by Dayton.
It is not really that difficult to post some results really is it?

At any rate, congrats to all the paddlers who competed, and a a big mahalo to Manny for what was by all accounts a very successful inaugural OC1 Molokai Race. He should be very proud for all his work to get this event off the ground, and give canoeing the recognition it rightfully deserves up there in Hawaii. There were obviously a few minor issues, but that is to be expected for a first time event. Also, I have got to give props to Keizo and his gang for the coverage during the race - that was really unique to be able to follow the race across the channel, and likewise, I think it will just go on and improve from here on. Also thanks Keizo for doing your best to update us on placings while the race was going - next time you should just get a whiteboard with the names on it and hold it up in front of the camera!!
I can't wait to see the final movie - looked like you guys had jet skis with cameras as well as the escort boat - so you must have some great footage. Well done once again.

Wow! Mael Carey - 2nd place on Saturday, 10th place on Sunday.

Pretty damn respectable.

You guys all have to check out ocean paddler TV. I just heard they were out there filming. OC-16. Really good stuff.

We have a report in today's Cook Islands News that Reuben Dearlove got 9th in the Kaiwi channel race in a time of 3:57, but can't find any official results or reference in the top 10 listed in that honolulu article link posted above? Can anyone verify. We're proud of him no matter what but a top ten finish is just awesome!
Was looking for outcome yesterday and tuned into the pa'a download a few times but our broadband was really choked back yesterday so had to give up.

Coc0nut, for the record, I didn't have anything to do with setting up that live footage. I just happened to hitch a ride on that boat. I think Cliff Tillotson (who also raced) was the guy behind setting up the live feed and coordinating the other cameras. It was fun to jump in that live chat for a few minutes and I would love to get involved with setting up live feeds in the future. Hopefully those guys do put something together with the video they shot though.

I agree with Goto,

Mael is the man, he placed 2nd on Saturday and then for sunday he gave up his 4 day old newly designed boat because someone damaged Danny's new boat while bringing it through the surf to Molokai. Mael ended up racing the demo boat which someone had wrecked the ama on friday afternoon and repaired friday evening using glass, painters sticks, and duct tape. He placed 10th on that boat and probably would have passed Aaron and Tapa if he was given another 200 yards before the finish.

Congratulations Mael,

How 'bout Danny Ching? He's probably not super stoked w/ third, but it's incredible that someone can train in Cali and hang in the surf for that long w/ Jr. and Kai.

"How ‘bout Danny Ching? "

Just out of curiosity, can a guy train in cali and be tops in the sport?

Mael definitely gets the iron man award. He's a bad ass. NONE of the other top guys even paddled the Maui to Molokai.

#17 Tue, 04/29/2008 - 8:27am

To answer your question, A.F., in my opinion it's possible, but it sure doesn't make it any easier. Tahitians live and train in Tahiti, obviously, but that doesn't stop them from dominating the Hoe lately in all conditions. Also Lewis Laughlin won the surfski last year, and Oscar Chalupsky of South Africa has won it like twelve times.

I wanted to comment on the timing, Baring a serious malfunction there is absolutely no reason why results are not posted the same day of the event. That goes for the smaller races that have less than 50 paddlers or the larger races with well over 100 paddlers. Timing and results is not rocket science. I make a point for the Catalina race to have the results posted before I go to bed. It is the last thing I need to do to say the race is complete.

Well la-dee-fuckin'-dah, O'Kweef!

Hey jim there are two "f"'s

#21 Tue, 04/29/2008 - 12:23pm

Just funnin' bro! Utterly tasteless, as usual. You do run a tight ship w/ that Catalina Race, chief.

#22 Tue, 04/29/2008 - 12:38pm

You should come down for Catalina one year Jim, Chris does a great job of putting on the event, plus who can resist the opportunity to be crowned mini-golf champion of the world.

#23 Tue, 04/29/2008 - 1:46pm

Apparently this was the trophy for the winner of the Catalina Mini-golf competition. Someone in the crowd said it resembled a certain poster on this forum. I reckon it's nothing like me.

Im almost afraid to ask, but is the resemblance acurate right down to the big pink balls?

If anybody wants to learn how to get results out the day of a race, contact the folks at the MCKC(Maui race series). they consistently churn out results on the day of the race. Super consistent and super fast!

Have Fun...Kicbacmaui!
