luckily for me, i didn’t have to deal with these personal issues. so i feel for you guys.
that said. here are my observations from the evening.
1) the charcoal was hot as sh!t. but the beer was cold.
2) johnny and danny gave a great clinic.
3) the kamanu gang screened three original video productions for crowd of over 100 people from hawaii, warshingtun, australia, california, and the south pacific.
4) a brand new Pueo was given away in a prize drawing that also included stuff from Oiwi ocean gear.
5) the BBQ chicken and meat was so damn good, it was gone before i could even catch a whiff of it. props to mr konohia for running the grills!
i’ll say this, i have never seen a group of builders so dedicated to the sport of paddling that they will give free food, a free clinic, and a free freakin boat away to a bunch of people they have no connection to besides the sport of paddling.
correct me if i’m wrong, but i have never even heard anything like this happening in the 20 years i’ve been around paddling. thank you luke, kelly, keizo, and johnny for putting your necks out there and supporting our little growing community.
at the risk of sounding like a wussy, the corona light was delish.
it was sweet. like jeremy said damn good food. he helped out choke. johnny and danny had great tips. check out mindys blog she video taped the whole clinic… um the free beer was a plus. us employees were loving it. all bus lol naw jk. well yeah im at school and should like do work or something instead of being on this addicting website… k shoots!
I’m not supposed to post anything relating to Kamanu Composites, so this may be my first and last post about our company. But I really want to thank everyone who came last night. I know it’s a busy time for everyone and it’s not easy to make it out to Kailua on a Monday night, especially the night after the Moloka’i Relay. So for everyone who came, thank you very much. And for everyone who didn’t come or couldn’t make it, don’t worry, we’ll do it again some time. Most importantly, i want to say THANK YOU to everyone who helped out all night. Thank you to:
Sokchea and Tiare for cooking all day and taking charge of all that.
Peter for helping out Sunday night and all day and night Monday.
Jeremy and Kulani for running the grill.
Kaimana for helping with the raffle tickets and everything else.
David for hooking us up with the ‘Oiwi prizes.
Jodi and Lia for helping cook.
Danny and Johnny for the clinic.
Brian Merrit Electric for hooking us up with the show room lights.
Alan for helping before the clinic.
Tyson for bringing down his rudderless for us to display.
Jordan for bringing the paddling machine.
Dagan, Shawn, Julian, Ikaika, and Julie for everything.
And again, thank you to everyone for all the support.
I can’t imagine why your company would have the professionalism to restrict its employees from posting on open forums. Are you trying to be different? Where’s your sense of adventure?
Shot-from-the-hip or questionable comments are an exciting way to either launch your product into the stratosphere or bring it all crashing down in a fireball of tears and debt. Not to mention the irrepairable damage done to personal character and reputations. Please play along.
No…seriously. Good luck. From the website, to the advertising, to the internet presence, not to mention the boats….it seems like a top-notch company with a big future. Imua!
Sounds like it was fun. I wish that I could have been there, my excuse wasn’t a funeral, but it was taking 22 students for 2 nights up to Koke’e. Good job to Luke and the crew over at Kamanu Composites, I will come and see the shop some day.
For those who weren’t there, it’s of note to mention that Kamanu Composites donated a brand new Pueo which was raffled-off at their grand opening last Monday. The tickets were $5 apiece, so someone made out with an awesome deal. The most remarkable part… All of the money generated by the raffle was donated to the fledgling Hawaiian Va’a Association, or HVA. The HVA is a brand new organization to further V1 paddling in Hawaii. Look for a clinic coming to a beach near you…
Just got back home today from Hawaii. I have the entire clinic on video and the raffle as well. Congrats to Al Ching who has been paddling the same OC1 for years. It is nice to see someone who gives so much to the sport of paddling (for years and years) to come away with a brand new canoe.
I will be putting up the videos on my website very soon.

Dono but wish I coulda,
Not as bad as you SyrusG … potential divorce and loss of my little boy kept me from heading over.
Sucks to miss a ‘historic’ event.
Best wishes for continued success and happiness amongst friends Kamanu boys.
Aloha,
pog

jc,
That might have been the most gracious post I’ve ever seen from you. So the evening must have been awesome. Wish I could have been there.

Its too late. The damage is done - I’ll never read a post of yours the same way again. Corona light??? Unbelievable. Disgraceful.
