Coaching

With the end of one man season it seems like an appropriate time to discuss coaching of 6 man teams .
What do you appreciate or like to see in a coach ? Strength of charachter, ability , experience, vast paddling knowledge,
degrees in exercise physiology / biomechanics , or all of the above.

Here`s a profile of the head womens coach at Casco Bay outrigger to start this thread off.

Only the ability to communicate effectively in simple terms what it takes for each person to make a boat go fast.

Clear communication in terms of what is expected of the paddlers and clear standards as to how crews will be set. Without those characteristics, paddlers can get frustrated and annoyed because they might not understand why things are done certain ways. If a coach sets standards, sticks to them and is fair in the way he/she sets crews then the paddlers will respect him/her and won't tend to second guess their coach as much as they would otherwise.
