We are beautiful !

Last sunday we did an 8 mile run from Leo Carillo to Dume (by the way it is pronounced like "doom"). That's a pretty reliable down hill run along the Malibu shore. Sun was out and the bumps were medium. We had the usual suspects from Marina and Oceanohana had brought some friends along. All together 8 guys and Nohealani as the only femme.
Perfect conditions for first timers and veterans alike. At the end of the run all of us made it through mild surf very gracefully and in one fluid and effortless motion picked up our boats and started walking to a patch of grass by the parking lot in order to avoid sand on the boats. The folks on the sand had no idea where we came from and as we made our way, all of a sudden a very excited and gorgeous woman got up and asked where we were coming from. It felt like I should have answered: "Actually from another planet, please take me to your leaders"
But then I explained that we had paddled down the coast. She stood there somewhat surprised, stunned and incredulous and said to us simply:
"YOU LOOK BEAUTIFUL"

Now that's paddling in BU !

Mulus, some things are best left to the imagination. Hahaaa.

I know what you mean Painteur, lot's of people make the comment when we paddle onto beaches how graceful we look. Even with a high tech appearance, the outrigger canoe has something about it that no other craft on water has, except outrigger sailing canoes, they look beautiful too.

I fell in love with the outrigger canoe first sight, and seeked out and joined a club next day. That was in 1989.

I’ve had similar experiences but not with a gorgeous woman, too bad. But I guess they do slide up to the shore pretty sleak and sexy.

Sounds like the beginning of the first paddling porno. At least it would be more tasteful than two girls one cup.

Stroke hard, come first!

I knew you guys would go south with this one.
For me it was about the excitement and awe the lady felt in that moment, which moved her to comment about beauty. Without canoes this little piece of magic wouldn't have happened. I bet she would try paddling based on that.
Should have recruited her...

.....and he recruited her to the back seat of his car in Margaritaville's parking lot.......

#17 Wed, 06/04/2008 - 2:54pm

Shawn, how is your seat working out??

#18 Wed, 06/04/2008 - 8:27pm

Much better, thanks for your help! I did a 3 hour run and was not crippled when I got out of the boat.

#19 Wed, 06/04/2008 - 10:39pm

Shawn
what did you do with your seat? I havent been around. I remember some of the thread.

#20 Thu, 06/05/2008 - 6:09am

Don't tell me you pooped in it! Please.

#21 Thu, 06/05/2008 - 9:56am

I added extra foam to it per jp's advice...in addition to not feeling crippled being slightly higher seems to give a little better leverage on the paddle, but it might my imagination. I assume it detracts the feel and responsivness of the boat but I wouldn't know the difference at this point.

I've seen runner poo poo trying to hit that personal best. Maybe a layer (like butter on a hot pan) would help facilitate hip rotation so I can figure out leg drive!

right on man. glad i could help. I have found that when Ive changed something like that that my mind probably exaggerates the improvements and other things feel improved also. Whatever works right? if I could paddle backwards and go faster I would but thats not til next year!
