What is the difference between taking something like heed and other products which are nothing more than electrolytes? Anyone shed a little light on this?

Some people like to do there electrolytes, h20 and carbs (maybe as gels for example) seperately and find this easier on the stomach. If you do this, you need to know what you are doing and what your bodies requirements are. Products like cytomax, accelerade, heed are ready mix blends that have all of the above. Look at the hammer web site and read up for more info

Thanks Shawn. But basically, an electrolyte only drink is no good to me by itself it sounds like?

You'll need to think about water, calories, and electrolytes during your workout/races. For events lasting 2 hours or more you will probably also want to take in some protein.
So, an electrolyte mix/drink with a good amount of calories coming from complex carbohydrates will probably be good for most of what you do.

Speaking of electrolytes I was down in southern mexico and you see the workers there digging trenches and doing heavy stone work for 12 freaking hours in the summer heat and they are eating cold soup, melons, plantains and jicama with lime juice and salt...perfect electrolytes! You think your tough, try a day of that

Right on, thanks again. I was just curious because powerbar has a drink powder that is purely electrolytes and nothing else. Sounds like it wouldnt be much good by itself.

Good for hydration but not for getting any calories into you.

OK, thats what I was looking for. Not useless, just need to use for non training hydration. Thanks. Its tough trying to decipher all the different supplements. The companies make each product sound like it will improve performance solely with its use. Lots of good stuff it you know when and where to use each one. Unfortunately, the last person to ask is the manufacturer. Fortunately, Keizo made this great site for me to ask all these stupid questions. Thanks jibofo.
