Paddling in Paradise

You people would not believe how beautiful it was out on Casco Bay today . The Maine coast in Summer is something every paddler should experience if you can . I know its hard to get to if you live in Hawaii but, if you can make it out here you wont regret it. I just got back from 3.5 hours of paddling and riding waves Hawaiian style right here in my own back yard . I have to tell you it doesn`t get any better.

Seals and Eagles and Ospreys all over the place , Lobster boats making big wakes to ride, all good .

I hope many of you will be able to come here someday to give Maine waters a try .

I`ll have lots of pics to post after the New England Outrigger/ Surfski Championships

Sounds great Fuzerider. It can be like that up the coast here on the Avalon also. Despite the water being around freezing here, there are big swells and waves to catch, in our tourquise crystal clear waters. All you need is a drysuit. Wish I could get down there more easily. Once they build our tunnel to Labrador, Maybe someday...
Cheers

Are there any good east coast races in late July or August?

Luke, can you make it to our Kent Island Relay on Labor Day Weekend? Keizo came two years ago, check out www.eastcoastoutrigger.com for details, and we will hook up you and any other Pacific paddlers who want to come!

Maine sounds like a beautiful place - thanks - looking forward to the pics! Whats the water temperature like this time of year? I'd love to try paddling there just for the scenery and experience!

Hey Fuzerider, we have the Labrador current here on the Avalon which keeps us chilled out. Mean sea temps for June are around 4 degrees C. Colder if we have icebergs around, which we have alot of this year. I do most of my routine workout paddling on lakes but when we do hit the ocean its another story: Beautiful but dangerous.

Wow Bob ,

I had no idea you guys had icebergs in Summer !!!

Maine is tropical compared to your place . I noticed from som pics I saw of your area on Google earth that you waters look clear and blue like Hawaii . By contrast our waters are Green and less clear .
