So far I think the record goes to either Kea Paiaina or Kekoa Bruhn. Possibly Mike Pedersen. Let me know what you think.

You should probably rephrase this question to read: Who has drank the most beers the night before the race and still gone out and won the race? Anybody can get drunk and lose. We want to know who can get drunk and still win don't we?

I think Uncle Tommy is correct. Furthermore, as "peterboy's" comment stands, escort boat drivers and support crew could be included in the inquiry.
It should be: 1) drank the night before; 2) AND raced the next day.
peterboy also forgot to include Manny in the discussion as well.
On a side note, for the record, the person with the handle peterboy seems to be an impostor and is not the Peterboy.

Well, not going to name names, but a good friend of mine routinely drank all night before the other races(Duke etc.), and won nearly all of them, many times w/ a then course record. At Molokai, Coach would have us sequestered on the island for a few days prior, so drinking all night before the actual Hoe was out of the question.

Hey Bamski....I heard from reliable sources that the 'team hurricane' gang was having green bottles for breakfast. I think you guys should be included in this discussion.

All I'll say is that everybody that stayed with me competed in the solo the week prior and was relieved that it was done. The relay was the wind down and the last race of the OC-1 season. So after seeing Aaron feeling good still early in the day and seeing some of the other guys staying with me popping tabs, it was on. I had a pretty entertaining bunch. When you're a happy drunk and laughing the entire time with some of the craziest and best paddlers this sport has to offer, it made the following day a bit stress free which for some paddlers enables you to perform better. Plus the earlier you drink, the earlier you sleep, atleast for me...
Maui Boys + Lanikai boys + Tapa Worthington + 1 Molokai to Oahu transplant = craziness.

i gotta give props to the Molokai Boyz for sharing their island. the duvauchelle's are my nephews who live there and i am lucky enough to have a place to stay even when my club is there. i usually show up on thursday and join up with my club on saturday afternoon. ive met so many cool guys through them. endless beer, fish and deer meat. partying til youre blind. listening to so many talented musicians from molokai. so friendly are the boyz. you never sleep the night before the race any way so why sleep when youre there. just being there is worth crossing. you guys gotta spend time there and party with the boyz. they will always take care of you.

Anyone who can race after drinking a few, or several, is badass. I have a hard enough time doing it sober.
One time our crew agreed that after the Kailua Iron we would tank 3 beers immediately after the race. It was awesome, I didn't know you get get totally hammered off of 3 beers.

Nalunutz has got the right idea. There is something about Molokai....as soon as you step off the plane all stress is erased....especially for the relay. For me that is the most fun race of them all.....getting to surf the channel on a one man....surf rest surf rest surf rest surf rest surf all the way across the channel.....so much fun. And Bamskii is right, too. You cannot beat partying with Tapa...........
