I could never understand why people would paddle in a stinky canal when there's a perfectly good ocean nearby.

the reason be...we can video and improve our stroke and blend...very few places enable one to do so that is why...many clubs do the same as us and they are among the best in the state.

As you know, poops, Lanikai practiced for many years in the equally poopy Kaelepulu stream, also known as Buzz's canal. I think I was one of the contributors to the evolution of penicillin resistant staph during my years paddling there. I always felt the whole paddling in flat water to improve technique thing was overrated. Not too many big races held in flat water, eh? I think that practicing in the ocean there in Kailua was one of the things that made Lanikai so strong. You're pretty much forced to do alot of upwind paddling. Kind of like back country skiers who have to climb the mountains to get their turns in.

Yeah so true Jim. My first step into a canoe was in that damn stream. It can't be that bad, I grew up in that water and look at me I'm fine.

I haven't seen lanikai in there for years.
