fiberglass....flat rack on tires, tired down. Then cross your figures that "the hacks" at Young Brothers don't smash your boat.

Koa...on trailer.

Jaws Out.

Somewhere I read that compressed-cardboard tubes used to build concrete piles/columns are very good at protecting an OC1 and just about the right diameter when you include stuffing (like wrapping hull & ama in bubble wrap first). Not sure if you can get the ama in too but if so I'd look there. Shipping not be cheap though.

its called sona tubes. got one on maui to ship an oc-1 to oahu (lucky it was free). 23' long by about 24" dia. had 2 3/4" ply rounds to fit in the inside tube screwed in with dry wall screws. its heavier than shit once its all said and done. need at least two guys to lift. 3 would be best. packed in a da kine canoe bag for protection. stuff with foam sheets at the ends. have to put it on a pallet cuz you know the dock guys. UNION!!!!! they use a fork lift to move it. Tie it down to a pallet and youre good to go. ama didnt fit. took it on the plane. air guys were cool with it and it survived fine.

PS: Keep it away from water. it is cardboard and will suck the water up and become even heavier. gave mine to OC when i was done. unless you have a constant need for it its a waist of space.

checkin' yer ama as airline baggage works fer sure. i jus' covered mine wi' a board bag. they did charge me 50 or 60 bucks fer 't tho. shippin' yer boat wi' a bunch o' others on a trailer works good too. jus' make sure 'tis on th' yardarm hole o' th' trailer an' that 't dasn't stick ou' farther than any o' th' other canoes. that way nay one can smash 't unless they smash through 2 or 3 other canoes first.

Easy, take it to Outrigger Connection and they will pack and ship it for you. I did this from O'ahu to TBI and it didn't cost much more than doing it myself with Young Brothers. They packed it in an enclose crate and it arrive fine.

It's been $38 to ship a canoe and ama interisland. But the canoe has to be able to fit into a container (so only the shorter canoes) and that is changing because Young Brothers doesn't want the canoes in their containers anymore. So i'm not really sure how much it costs to put it on a pallet or on a flat rack.... which i would imagine would be a little sketchy.

i used a sono tube on a 4' pallet from kauai to kona cost around 180.00 on young bros alot more than i thought it would. they calculate the cubic foot from the widest and tallest point X length ( should have used a 2' pellet ) also shipped from kauai to maui on a flat rack with other oc1. someone else made arrangements so i'm not sure if you can just send one canoe or if you have to pay for the whole flat rack but my cost was 35.00. i think they used tires and strapped canoes to rack. that boat is still on oahu and i need to ship it back to kauai and need to find cheapest and safest way.
