Mahalo Nui to all the participants. It took a lot of logistics for them to come out to the country north and west shores to race. Conditions were excellent, winds straight from their backs. Everyone loved it, Course video coming soon.

Special mahalo to the Uncle Buffalo and Aunty Momi Keaulana Ohana for their support in starting the race. In Aunty Momi's words for the opening ceremonies, "It is important for all of you paddlers to keep paddling and training because this is what keeps our Hawaiian culture alive."

The Kaena Challenge will always be faced with scheduling conflicts such as one week after the States and same weekend as the World Sprints, making it difficult for clubs to logistically and financially participate. However the quality of the venue, the food, and the support will always be of the highest level.

Mahalo,
Makaha Canoe Club

If you look at the times, there were mostly pairs of close races. Each pair of OC-1 or OC-6 had their own little battle going on all the way to the finish.

Gee....thanks for the mention, but I was not in that 1st place crew. Keola Lindsay was though.....he's my hero.

Not me-- I was all by my lonesome battling my own deficiencies as a paddler-haha! At least I finished and had fun doing it.

What about the short course? ;)

The surf run was really good, lots of wind and swell. I think there should be an OC1 race in those conditions finishing at Mokuleia.
