Duke Kahanamoku Long Distance Race
Our race time was 3:09; the newspaper states 3:19 - ?
There was mention of a time penalty for the teams that missed the buoy at the Mokuleas. About a fifth of the boats made the effort to paddle out and turn around that buoy, the rest of the field stayed inside.
Everybody should do the same course and distance.
Does anybody know how this was decided ?
Bigboy Ironman challenge - ocpaddler website has this for 3 weeks from now, the newspaper states that it is this weekend. What is the correct date ? Seems to be Sep 6th:

I think the paper mistook the Big Boy Race for the Kailua Iron, which is this Saturday.

Duke results are posted here.
All but 5 crews were given a 10 min penalty for not going around that buoy.

Can someone remove the penalty from the Lanikai masters crew time - the boat went around that buoy.
I am not quite sure how much time it took to get around it; straight into the wind, extra distance about 1/2 mile; my guess up to 5 min extra.
10 min penalty seems a little harsh.

Is there a penalty for a crew (or a steersman) that decides to start the race early before the canon goes off?

Usually the race starts in two groups to avoid problems around Flat Island.
