There are lots of clubs in Auclkland and also as you travel down the Island.
There are clubs based on lakes, in harbours and on beaches.
They are a really friendly bunch, you will not have a problem getting a paddle.
Just so you know a bit of the NZ speak.
You should quote this to all the Aucklanders that you meet.
"It is only really windy in Wellington...because Auckland sucks! Go wellington!!!!
Oh yeah Outriggers are commonly called Waka Ama or just Waka for short,
It is pronounced Wok ka ....and not wacker
Take your lip balm, long sleeve polyprop thermals, wind breaker and beanie. You are gonna need them.
The long sleeves are to wipe the snot away.
