Big Boy Challenge

Was an awesome race and a great after party!
Thanks Dave... nice job.
Everyone who was out 'practicing'... You missed out.
What happened to everyone that was calling for more iron races? Didn't see many of you bloggers...
Looking forward to next year's BBC.
Congrats to Lanikai, Kailua, and Lokahi, and Koa Kai for placing in division.

I was wondering to...what happened to all the talk about more iron races on Oahu? Oh, well there is always next year. Great day, great fun, great food and beer at the after party. Many mahalos to the sponsors, Kona Brewing and Big Boy Records. And more mahalos to the clubs that represented today. Definately a Big Boy Challenge.

Enjoy the ride!

I found the shirts especially attractive. A few women were telling me that they would love to race the Big Boy Challenge instead of E Lau Hoe, just for a change of pace, so maybe next year there should be women's divisions. What do the girls have to say about that? Would you do it or rather do E Lau Hoe? Both?

I am kind of surprised that it wasn't a bigger turnout after such a rave response after last year's race and then that thread about how there should be more iron races, blah, blah, blah. I guess those guys only wanted iron races if it was less challenging conditions. Or they were just making up excuses to not race... Or maybe all those guys paddle for Lanikai or Kailua or Koa Kai and WERE there? WTF???

Dear 247365,

For myself, I was not intending to belittle those who didn't not attend. I was just curious regarding why there was not more participation especially since there was recently discussion that indicated interest in iron races.

Unfortunately, it DOES kind of matter a little bit how many ocean-loving athletes are present since official boats, food, and awards must be paid for regardless of participation. If paddlers really are interested in having more iron races, it would make sense to support the clubs that are trying to make that happen. I don't think anyone wants to sponsor a race at a financial loss.

In closing, let me echo your parting words:
Peace, love, and joy to us all. May we paddle in harmony for all time.

To 247365891708364,
That was a shocker to read that profanity coming from you. I've read your previous postings and was impressed with the way you're able to articulate and express your opinions in a way that was caring and nonjudgmental, which is a rarity in many forums, so the whole "shit" blurb had me falling off my seat. Your rainbow flag lost its colors of kindness.

Compared to other responses, I did not think any of the previous responses from HawaiianPaddler, DrKanuPaddler or PaddleLikeAGirl was in anyway intended to be disdainful or condescending. It seemed like they were baffled by the lower than expected turn out and just wanted to express it.

Driving from Lanikai side, I was heading to work, when I saw the canoes out and it did seem like a small turnout so kudos to all who did participate and support the cause.

247365891708364, you've always been an objective, even tempered and balanced contributor to the forum when things get a little heated in other postings such as the case with the Hawaii State Championships post. I hope you will wave that rainbow flag once again with pride while sharing your love and kindness.

Def not angry :)
I'll smile next time.
Emodicons are good. :)
It's all good... (unless you got official boats to pay and t-shirts to print, but since I wasn't responsible for paying, it was ALL fun).
:)
and i think "wtf" is more of an expression these days than actual profanity, tho I'd have to agree on a cautioned use of the term...Could be taken badly.
:)
SMiLE :)

Well it is that time again! Go to koakaicanoeclub.com to download forms. If you register early it is CHEAPER!!! What better way to get your canoes to Hawaii Kai for the Women's E Lau Hoe than to get a great practice run in for the men?
