Comments on the chart:

  • one paddler rated his Pegasus low in big conditions.
If anybody familiar with that boat could comment on that - I thought it had a god name in big conditions, maybe that is not so.
  • set-up/rigging is rated a little lower for the Pegasus. I think there may have been(?) an issue with getting the iakus into their slots - not always easy.

The Pegasus is a great all round boat where I am in the North-East, but when it gets bigger (even here in 3-4 footers) it has a tendency to pearl for me and I need to lean back quite a bit. Now mind you I weigh 195lbs so not exactly ideal weight for this boat likely. Its not low in the big stuff but likely medium to decent depending on what you weight and how low the boat sits. Lauren and Kai had no problem surfing it over the last few years.

My Pegasus which is new 2008 has no issues rigging the Iakos/Ama works like a charm. Easy to connect and remove. Likely previous years issues with that have been resolved.

I recently had my Pegasus out in roughly 15 foot plus ocean swell during tropical storm Hanna here on the east coast. I was happy w/ the way it surfed the bigger stuff. I run about a buck 95 also AND found I had to lean way back to keep the nose up. I was forced to brace on the right side to keep my speed down a bit, as well as the ama light. It easily caught the bump w/ some early, heavy paddling to get up some speed. I'm looking forward to giving the scorpius a try when it becomes available (possibly zephyr?). Possibly these boats will be that much better! My 2007 boat is a bit challenging to rig/unrig. I seem to have it down to the easiest way possible which still is a bit more difficult than my hurricane. Since I typically paddle in two different conditions, I keep a boat I generally like in the flats (HUKI), AND a boat I like to take out in the surf (Pegasus).

drewp - what did you mean when you mentioned you "run about a buck 95"? I'm not familiar with that phrase.
