Opinions: Pueo vs Fuze - Survey data posted.

the Pueo versus Fuze chart has been posted on my blog. http://www.oc1design.blogspot.com

I am not sure about the displacement volume of either boat - they may target different weight paddlers ?

PS: please mind that just 6 paddlers rated the Fuze; if more paddlers were to post, the result might differ; consider it a trend.

Comments/opinions are welcome

The rating scale is kind of small being from 0 -4, if there is a statistical significance factor played in, I would say they are virtually tied - I guess sort of like Putin and Osama, I mean Palin and Obama. Nice job! The Hurricane and Pegasus is an interest in contrast.

How did you decide which OC-1 to compare? Can you put the four most surveyed canoes together for comparison?

I figured if you increase the scale you invite other problems.

Just look at the data as a trend in paddler's opinions; as if you were asking 6 people on the beach. Hopefully more people will post.

The decision which boats appear in the survey is paddler driven: when you submit data the only required field is the name of the boat that you are rating.
You can find the form for the survey if you click the link under the Performance chart on the left in the blog.

The Fusion and Zepher graph comparison (with Hurricane) is almost indistinguishable! Aren't the two made by the same company (Outrigger Connections)? Its either people who own the fusion also own the zephyr so they made similar ratings or the two canoes are coincidentally similar since they are both made by the same manufacturer! I thought that was very interesting because those rating definitely contrasts with the Hurricane.

WIth more ratings, it will be nice to see if that trend continues.

I don't know but I think the Pueo ratings may be skewed due to hype because its the newest model out?? Or maybe it is in fact the killer canoe its rated to be. I guess if and when a new model comes out from someone else, see if those ratings are also topping the chart.

The Fusion/Zephyr data show the trend that the Zephyr improved the way it was intended by the design changes:

  • the bow volume was slightly reduced and is distributed more vertically
  • the boat is narrower, finer entry
  • the volume of the deck was reduced at the stern

result:
better flat water, better upwind, equal or slightly better downwind.
