I know guys were paying $800 for the paddleboard race. Also, a team, who knew their boat driver, payed $500 today for the Henry Ayau race. I'd say somewhere between 6 and 800, if not more for Molo. Sounds like a bit much but I guess gas prices are to blame.

Yeah...gas prices and the actual cost of the boat and the time the boat driver takes to prep the boat, get to Molo and back. Not to mention if something breaks down or gets damaged and must be repaired ($$$). It really isn't profittable but it is fun to be out there if you're not paddling. Sometimes a driver is lucky to break even...at these prices too!

Yeah id think up to $1000 for a decent boat is fair these days.

Be ready to spend large amounts...Most of the new escort drivers are only in it to make money and take advantage of paddlers...they know how much we want to do the channel... i can count on my hand how many escorts actually do it to help paddlers and are honest about how much it costs to fill their tanks... Do they really need to charge us $100 to $300 dollars a day just for time? Plus most of them fish on the way up anyways... I agree with Mikala that there are incidental costs, but it didn't always used to be this way. Be wary and make sure you know your escort...they can't all be Norm, Maggie, or Les...
