Honolulu Advertiser Paddling Blog

Aloha Gang,

The Honolulu Advertiser will SOON have a paddling blog on their website ("Na Leo Hoe Wa'a"), which will be great exposure for the paddling community and sport, itself. Jessie and I don't know EVERYTHING that is going on in the HI paddling community, so if there's something you'd like to see on the blog, shoot me a PM or leave a comment on the blog's site. I can't promise that everything I receive will be written about or addressed, but at least I'll be in the know ;)

The lighthouse website from New Hope is a suberb archive when it comes to paddling related issues.

I like to collect things related to OC 1 canoes, technique, mostly in video format. Not daily news etc. -There is definitely enough space on the web to have lots of paddling blogs, all are a little different.
We'll see what Jamie has in mind.

In case you want to start a blog:

all things can be done with Google. Sign up, get a blog template, edit your post, done.

It helps to understand html, but you can do well without it.

In case you have specific questions, please send me a contact note, I am happy to help you to get going.

Do you know about this one:

Jaimie,

What a great first entry! And good idea on how to get the news media more involved, since that was a hot topic around here recently. Along with everyone else, I'm looking forward to future blog posts!

Jaimie - that is awesome - its great for the sport given the Advertiser has a strong media presence in the islands, and it will be an excellent compliment to OCPaddler, since combined, the information will be accessible to a broader audience of readers.

It will be great to keep the exposure of the sport front and center and attract potential sponsors and newcomers alike. Its been exciting to read the Advertiser articles coming into the final days of the big race for the women, and now to have a blog on the Advertiser started by two talented athletes from the sport is wonderful and perhaps even promote and encourage more women to participate.

Thanks to OCPaddler for keeping the paddling community informed and connected, and now, thanks to you and Jesse for extending the sport to the general public as well as paddlers!

Best wished to you both on your Ka'iwi crossing!

Nat, Can't take credit for the idea. It was Dayton Morinaga who approached the two of us. He's da bomb diggity fo' shizzle ;)

Eckart, the audience for the Advertiser blog is broad, reaching the general population that does not necessarily paddle. So, super technical topics can continue to be your thing on your blog -- we won't impose! We are doing this blog simply to expose our sport to a larger audience with the hopes that it will grow a little as a result.

We're asking the OCP community to help keep us informed b/c whether you like it or not (hopefully you DO!!), we're representing the paddling community on the Advertiser.com. You folks ARE the community, so we want to hear what's going on in your neck of the paddling woods...

Mahalo Kamamakakaua for your kind words! :D

Jaimie,

Will the postings on the Advertiser blog be edited or will they be straight from the paddlers keyboards?

One thing I like alot is the unedited nature of OCPaddler.
Truth gets across better when words are unedited.

And God knows I like truth.... :)

Huge ongoing Kudos to Keizo for starting OC Paddler and keeping it real .

Best paddlers blog in the world.

Everything's straight from our keyboards, unedited, bad grammar, amateur writing skills and all. If they wanted edited submissions, they'd PAY a real writer instead of having paddlers VOLUNTEER their time. Real we shall keep it.

Jamie, I am looking forward to your blog: I find ocpaddler, Rambo's locker etc much more entertaining than TV. 247365 is just teasing.

A blog is a collection of things that interest the blogger him/herself first.

Example: There are barely any pictures and/or descriptions of Tahitian Va'a on the entire internet - except one French manufacturer.
After seeing the Best of Super Aito 2008 - already a classic - I would like to know how these boats are shaped etc..
We may find some info on Hiro C.'s blog in the future. I have a link to his site 'Surfski & Va'a à Huahine', it's in french, with nice pictures, results etc. .
Here is the site: http://tuaruavaa.blogspot.com/

Just a little bit - we need to know more about the V1 va'a.

I just noticed, Jamie and Jessie's sport blog in the Honolulu Advertiser is now in the featured blog section, amongst other notable personalities - Dave Vinton, Catherine Toth, Lane Davey, Stephen Tsai with two new entries...

http://www.honoluluadvertiser.com/apps/pbcs.dll/section?Category=feature...

Damn, someones got a new Pueo! Its nice to see the partnership between Johnny and Keizo, Luke, Kelly

Still waiting on how the V-1 will look!

Nice posting Jamie - perhaps a picture of the new Pueo in the near future?

Kamamakakaua, mahalo for the support. It makes me nerjous publishing on such a widely read site! Waiting for all decals to get made in pink before posting pics! Jess, myself and a few others are paddling & doing some community outreach work to promote health awareness, specifically breast cancer awareness (hence the pink theme of our canoes!). Race To Heal is the name of the project...will be a blog topic in the near future, I'm sure!

GREAT job Jamie, I just checked out the blog. The more ways we can get the word out to the masses the better it is for everyone. All of you who are starting new projects, working on blogs etc etc to help promote the sport are amazing.

The HSCA (www.hsca.biz) would love to help support your community out-reach. My sailing canoe is pink! Let me know more about the race to heal project, Ocean Paddler TV would like to help show our support!

Great job again :):)
