Ama?

Since there has been a lot of talk about the " lightning " vs the " mirage " being the canoe for the channel, how about the " ama? " Which ama seems to be the best for the channel? I know that some of the Mirage riders have opted to use a different type of ama ( mana ) instead of the " puffy. " Or attach a puffy to the lightning and putting the " io " ama to the side. Has the io ama been attached to another type of canoe other than a Bradley? Are we smarter than the canoe builders who have assemble this or is it a matter of trail and error? What do the canoe builders think of this?

I dunno about the performance but bixler's ama looks badass on the lightning.

I guess the "channel master" is not the master anymore huh?

ditto that poopoo. I was wondering the same thing, the bixler on the Lightning. I saw it on a couple boats.

The only thing I know is that J. Foti swears by the bixler, he says it is more forgiving, not as bouyant as the puffy so it doesn't bounce as much in the surf.

For what its worth, I ain't going to question Jimmy, he's the man when it comes to steering.

one more thing....

I think the new Mirages come with a bixler...not the same Mana Ama, but something that looks like a cross between the mana and the puffy. That ama looks nice as well.

I've bought Bixler amas for here after accidents broke the original ones (dont ask...) and use them on both Mirages and Force 5s. To me they are far superior in tracking and less bounce, work best when rigged close in and are very well made.

Plus Brent Bixler is awesome. Talk about a guy that stands behind his products. He chewed me out one time because our club was beating up our bixler amas and not taking care of them.

Can the ama's be switched on the oc1's? Can I put a pegasus ama on my kaimana?

Out of curiosity, how much does a new ama run? I'm guessing about $1000-$2000 but I have no idea...

you could put any sort of ama on any oc1 but you just have to make your own iakos for it. guy in socal runs a fusion ama on his kaimana. not sure if it helps him or not but he must have some reason for it.
