Professional canoe paddlers?

To win Molokai?
An idea to start with. Select two coaches every year from the first and second senior crews at the state champioships. The first place crew coach is the head coach. Select the first 12 to 15 finishers from the OC-1 Molokai race. One of those guys is going to be a top steersmen. Get a sponsor and a donated canoe that the coaches like to use for the race. After states thses guys train in OC-1's durning the week and two six mans on weekends. The coaches can pick, the best 9 by performance from the one man's and switching the 6 man crews around for optimum performance. One man performance in flat water counts 70% to make the crew and coaches in put is 25%.
Best place to train is Keehi Lagoon because of the flat water and timed courses can be set up. Train on the ocean on weekends.
It's not perfect but we already have the talent to win, we just need a way to get them together. I know that we eliminate some very good paddlers by just selecting from the OC-1 Molokai race, but what you do get are conditioned paddlers that can go the distance. We have to start somewhere, this is our Olympics.
