marianolarghi
Not to hijack the thread, but have you raced the Rio Va'a? If so, would you share your experience?

Aloha Aqua,
yes i did race Rio Va'a 3 times, 2005,2006 and 2007, its a challenging course, around 18miles Iron, and because the complexity of Rio de Janieros coastline you get to paddle all kine waters, FLAT, WINDY, OPEN-OCEAN,SIDEACTION, you name it. in December there are good chances of getting great south winds wich creates bigswells and there are 4 vortex points in the course in adition of their classical rockycliff wich creates bestial wackwashes, so.......its a dream course(specially for steersman).

my experience was great since we paddle all year round in the river here in Argentina, so to get the chance to be in the open ocean with Brazilian teams its well apreciated.

this is the website www.riovaa.com
i can talk for hours about each edition if you like just aske me whatevas and i will be more than happy to continue in PM so i don 't hijack this thread.....hahahahah!

everybody should ad this race in their list......

ps, myself......i want to ad HAWAIKI NUI VA'A!!!!!!!
ps2 how that beautifull AMA of yours ended up working????

I'll be talking to Travis Grant (who paddled with Team Kamanu Oiwi ) this weekend as we are putting a GoPro Cam on a rudderless Va'a for a race at Noosa, so I will do a video interview with him as well and post it here.

Happy with that Mariano?

Cheers Rambo

Oh alright, all the Aloha in one thread then.

Karel Jr is off to race in the Land Down Under in January next year. Two races on consecutive weekends, one in Western Australia from Rottenest Is to the Mainland (an awesome downwind if the trades are blowing) and the following weekend on the other side of the country in Victoria near the Famous Bells Beach, also a downwind race and home of the Out-Law series of races.

And the good news is, Karel has agreed to be fitted out with "Wide Angle GoPro Cam's on the Zephyr ... won't that be interesting?

More info on the races in another thread later.

Cheers Rambo

Put your glasses on Cecil, big news about Karel Jnr, will be a thrill for us Outlaw paddlers to line up with him, I guess I had better make the most of it as I won't see him for long. It is a wonder he speaks to you, have you told him you're paddling my Pegasus!!!!!!!!

This was Mariano's Aloha thread originally, as usually happens, its been hijacked way above ... sorry Mariano

If you can find me a Zephyr in Melbourne ..... i'll paddle it and you can lend the Peggie to BIG Toddy Cohen (6'7" 250lbs)

Can you believe some of the places we Outriggers can paddle now, Rio, NY, Thames in London, France, Italy, Cook Is, USA, NZ and of course Hawaii, Tahiti and many others. This truly is a global sport now. A bloke can just about pick any country in the world and sure enough there will be an outrigger race there. Amazing.

Cheers Rambo

Kanu The Rock
Hey Rambo and the North Atlantic! Labrador Current! Amongst the icebergs!

Bob the brave! Keeping Outrigger alive singlehandedly in the frigid North Atlantic! And I thought Seattle was cold. How 'bout some pics, Bob? That water looks beautiful on Google Earth.

Whenever anyone asks about the trip, all i can really say is that it was an incredible experience. After seeing how important paddling is to everyone down there, it gives you a lot of respect for the Tahitians and for paddling in general (not to mention the fact that they're all mind blowingly fast paddlers). Their energy is contagious.
Sorry I dont really have time to say more, but i'll try and post more later on when i have more time.. and when i've digested the trip a little more.

Kanu The Rock
Hey Jim,
Its a bit difficult to snap shots of outrigger when you're the only one around but here are a few that I managed to get one way or another of our spectacular ocean environment.
