OC PADDLER SITE OUT OF CONTROL

A few years ago this site was an incredible source of important and valuable information for the International paddling community. Today this site is a FULL TIME CIRCUS. Paddlers who posted the most interesting subjects on the past are not posting anymore. Why? Because today's subjects are all about NON SENSE COMMENTS. A small group of cyberpaddlers are using this site to post ridiculous comments and opinions. I am sure Keizo create this site to help and promote the paddling sport, but the site is OUT OF CONTROL right now. Keizo must change the rules, he has to take control of this great site again. Only positive and educational subjects should be allowed on this site. Sadly not everyone respect the rules and that the reason why strict controls must be applied.

A lot of offensive comments has been posted on the past and today someone wants to talk about hot girls.
Come on, be more respectful.

Yes, censorship rules! Only things I like should be allowed. The public cannot be trusted. I vote that a Committee for Allowable Topics be formed immediately and should meet thrice weekly to review, approve, or reject all subject matter. Only through strict censorship and totalitarian control can this forum be enjoyable again. Freedom sucks.

Yeah, there's a lot of nonsense here, yeah, there's a lot of heckling and name calling here, yeah there's some offensive stuff, but the good stuff is still here, just have to sift through to find it.

As far as the cyber paddlers go, I've met a lot of the OCP big posters at races up and down the West Coast and in Hawaii. They paddle, and most of them are damn fast.

As for offensive posts, if no one replies, they die a quick death.

This is just a place for talking story, some good stuff, some bragging, some nonsense.

Yeah , thatsright boys!! were mostly all Americans here and Americans never run from a little controversy .
And we don`t put up with censorship EVER !!
So, bring on the truth , the baloney and everything in between and let We The People get it all sorted out.

You know , If Keizo does want to do the censorship thing here at OCP , Im going to lobby hard to make January Chine talking month . I`ll use all my financial might to get it done too .
If you dont just talk chines in January the OCP jack booted thugs will be knocking on your door to haul you down to the hoosegow for further questioning.....

What goes on here is basically what goes on at any normal practice. Part equipment and technique talk, part name-calling, and a whole lot of grab-ass that may or may not include insults, criticism, jokes, anatomical comparisons, cracks about spouses and/or girlfriends, and a lot of complaining about the coaches.

Hasn't there always been a lot of silly talk? As for paddling related talk-there's still plenty of that. I guess you missed the recent topic about building the v-6.

Harry,
you'll probably get bashed for this post (you are already taking gas). You have to remember, you are posting this comment in the very lions den you wish to take a stand against. Some of the guys on here, they (over)run this site now. And while that may be, it still doesn't necessitate screening and censorship. It's un-american. So, if you're looking for intelligent, thoughtful feedback, this is no longer the place. It is few and far between. Like Jibofo says, you have to sift through it to find it. Example? Look when Waokele tried a simple post last week to ask for advice on assistant coaches.

This site is still fun, and if you want it, just take it at face value. Maybe one day we'll have a serious OC forum, Eckhart's making an effort in that direction with his blog, maybe someday he'll moderate intelligent discussion on his site that is strictly about design, nutrition, technique, and the kinds of things that people want to share and understand. Here, it's now just whose paddling with what club and this brand of boats is the fastest cause I will overwhelm anyone who tries to say anything to the contrary and this chick is the hottest on Team Bradley. Some people like to talk gossip though, and they should be allowed to.

Here's how it is: This is a party as Keizo's house, and if you find his guests obnoxious, don't complain about it, it's not your party to regulate how you choose. Just get together with you buddies have another party. Point is, I agree with you. Outside of a few guys who really want to talk shop and share their mana`o, this site has basically become ridiculous. Most of the serious paddlers I know, they laugh at the people on this website who constantly joust and have nothing better to do with their day than post nonsense. But that's exactly the thing, who says they shouldn't be allowed to? Everyone deserves a voice, despite our personal opinion of their thoughts.

the really funny thing is, all the paddlers that scoff at this site or say it's useless are still reading it. it's some kind of guilty pleasure for the "real" paddler. similar to playing grab ass...

i know i'm prolly considered one of the chief offenders on here. but i've learned a ton about boat design, nutrition, and training from ocpaddler. perhaps the silliness distracted others from seeing the truly useful pieces of information.

i'm too lazy to go look for the other threads, but someone has touched on this "out of control" topic in the past.

I do not think censorship is what was asked for, but at the same time I am kind of busy. I would like to read the forum for useful paddling information but just do not have the patience to sift through all the BS. I find it frustrating and am very thankful someone has said something. Maybe we all could be a little more respectful and keep the meaningless BS on another forum? Or at least, pretty please, refrain from posting on the threads that are valid questions or comments.

hey harry, second go at this eh? i agree with you that there is lot of nonsense posted- i've done my fair share... when i ran into goto in catalina i was mentioning how there was some ridiculous shit that gets thrown about.. but hey, my info is public, i'm not hiding behind an online personality... i was actually thinking the opposite of you- i think that the posts are getting MORE informative, not less... boat building, tahitian paddling, and more... when oc1 info is requested, it hasn't been blasted out of the sky, and people still try to answer, even if it's for the 100th time...there used to be more hazing before. maybe because we've blasted each other so often and are still here.

then again, the days of the hypr threads were awesome, i'm all for bringing those back..

I think it's time for a comment from serious poopoopaddler.

There's another whole side to this as well. The people that come here looking for genuine paddling info or a variety of opinions on something don't normally give credit or say thank you for the time or effort some people put into supplying this info. Sure it's a public forum and accessible to everyone with out even having to join or log-in, but when you have spent a lot of time and effort into passing on info, forming opinions, shooting videos etc and maybe only one or two people have bothered to acknowledge or say thank you, it's makes you wonder why you continue to do it.

Personally, it doesn't bother me, I enjoy the giving, but there are others on here that are shocked at the lack of kudos. That's life , there are the givers and the takers, but it would be a better place on here if some of the takers acknowledged the value that they took occasionally.

Cheers Rambo

Harry, I totally understand your point of view. Many members of OCP do take posting beyond what this site is designed for. Your comments are heard with a heavy heart from seriouspoopoopaddler.

I have 2 comments that hopefully will alleviate your difficulty.
1. e206030 is correct. What goes on here is much like a normal practice at any canoe club. Lots of joking, sarcasm, chest bumping, idiot bashing, girl spaking, and the such. I think this site offers the opportunity for members to continue on even after practice is over. Or offers some to the opportunity to be a part of something they physically cannot attend.

  1. I think if you look closely many posts are answered with the "stupid questions, stupid answers" motto. I mean honestly, how would you feel if someone asked you "whats the best car to buy?" How would you go about answering that? Wouldn't you feel obligated to give some sarcastic remark?

I hope we can all find this site useful and entertaining at the same time. We need to find the balance.

Love to all you people.

I cant see the harm in a little jabbing. or speaking your mind and this is a free world. I don't want to get up a sing the national anthem. but I also try to remember we are borrowing a south pacific cultural sport and this site is based on that. A little respect couldn't hurt.
