Yes, it's wood....Poplar. Body-worked, primed, and painted.

And I thought ours was nice Toa,

Did you build that Bill? Looks awesome. Hows it run in the bumps?

nice looking canoe.
Kapena on Maui - Malama Ula C.C. now Wailea C.C. built an OC3 years ago... fiberglass construction. Boat wuz bitchen and ran in the flats as well as the down wind runs. It also was caused riot at the races and had to go un-official as i recall!

:)

It was built by the Tahitian who built Livestrong's two Tahitian-designed OC-6's that are painted black.

Nice canoe. holly. That's what we need at our shed sometimes only 3 out of the 6 show up. is there any specs like length width height weight?

Yep Deb,
We took some "skins" off the front of a Force Five and slapped then together.
Process made it heavier than it should of been but still turned out to be a fast sit-on-top 3-man. Oh ya, had foot steering too.

Eric--
Kapena's boat was fun, You should get him to bring back out.... You guys could use that boat during your practices. or i'll just "small kine" borrow it!!!!!!!! It was a little heavy, but it moved fast. The foot steering is great.

wonder how much she weighs.

#12 Wed, 11/19/2008 - 1:30pm

a single is 25 give or take. and a double is 50 maybe it could be around 75 lbs give or take.

#13 Wed, 11/19/2008 - 1:49pm

ours is close to 90 lbs, but she's been repainted and repaired quite a bit since she first made it to the states from tahiti many years ago. I think she was about 70 lbs then.

#14 Wed, 11/19/2008 - 2:35pm

I'd estimate 150 lbs.

#15 Wed, 11/19/2008 - 7:54pm

i bet it would be pretty sweet if you rigged it to sail too...

#16 Wed, 11/19/2008 - 9:43pm

Our V3 is 65 kg... close to 150 lbs.

whats the length width and rocker if you don't mind me asking.and it must feel light. its only 50 lbs a paddler,we have a 30ft dugout that would be a good 3 man. we have 5 seats in it and I use it for our 8 year old paddlers, mostly. our ladies race it in the 4 man races they have sometimes.

Today's a good day.. I got a Hurricane again yesterday its my second one . its great to have good friends in the canoe business.

Yes she can !
Wide and flat bottomed. and it doesn't cost a million $, we got it for 3500 €.

#21 Fri, 11/21/2008 - 6:58am

"looks like a million dollars" was a line i picked up in my years liiving in America, in spanish i would say:
" ESE CASCO ES UNA MAZA!!!!!"
as in Hawaiian slang would be "DAT HULL IS DA KINE!!!!!"

one day i will be visiting your home waters.........

Ia Orana Hiro and Maurururu( is this correct fo thanks?) for being there, sharing the tahitian way to us!
