Travel Bag for Zephyr...

Anyone have a good suggestion for a travel bag for the zephyr?

Saw the Dakine on the OC site it looks a little big. Looking to decrease the stone, salt and flying stuff from hitting the shell when traveling with canoe on my car...

I just got a full zippered cover for my Zephyr from Huki. Their VR-1 22ft model cover fits great, you just have to cut a new slit for the rudder. It includes a cover for the ama but it doesn't quite zip up all the way because the Zephyr ama is a bit fatter. But for $200 bucks, you can't beat it, all the rest are double!

Try the zipperd bag from Dakine. It will fit almost all of the current OC1s and it is very well made. Mine has made 6 interisland flights in Hawaii, and one barge trip with surfskis, and nevre any problems.

And you can get a padded surf board cover for the Ama and it works well, fits the iakos as well.

Eastern outrigger has a lightweight suncover for OC canoes .
Half zipper , with a slot for rudder to protrude.
$195. plus shipping.

Careful on blindly ordering the Dakine padded bag for the Zephyr. I tried one out for size and it was too small. Too bad too, that bag is sweet and only one I've seen that has the foam padding for ding protection.

If anybody out there has a good medium/heavy weight sewing machine, I would say there's an open market for OC1 bags that have both UV & ding protection, include external pouches for the iaku's, a slot for rudder, and included ama bags using same material...

I have a couple of the DaKine "sock style" boat covers. They fit my Stingray, Zephyr and V10 nicely. There's usually some excess material at the tail so I'll rubber it if I don't want it flapping in the wind. If you're in the PNW you can get them from JD (he also has mini ones for amas).

Thanks.... JD sent some pics already of the DaKine.

Western Canoe and Kayak also custom makes em, just a bit on the $$$ side.

Misery is Optional.....

Go to your local fabric store, buy 3 yds of this stretch cotton/lycra material that is made in a tube shape. Sew one end and you have a cover. Maybe $25. I have a zephr too and this fits perfectly. It's just the right size to stretch over the boat to a snug fit for travel without flopping around.

61/2 yds not 3. It will stretch to 22'. It's a knit ribbing, comes in a tube like a sock, multiple colors.

In Victoria BC Canada, you can try http://www.compassrosedesigns.com/boatcovers.htm
She does an excellent job. You can also buy at an 80 cent dollar right now.
