'The Doctor' Open Ocean Series - $30,000 Prize Money

The race is being organised by Dean Gardiner as part of the World Cup Ocean Ski Race Series. It's an epic 28km downhill race from Rottnest Island off the coast of Perth Western Australia back to the mainland. It's open to Skis, Outriggers and Stand Ups. The worlds best ocean ski paddlers, regular competitors in the Molokai Ski Race, have compared the conditions in this race to those of Molokai. And now they will be joined by the 7 times Molokai OC1 champion Karel Jr and other OC1/2 paddlers.

The race is called "The Doctor" after the local sea breeze that blows in every day during summer at about 20 knots.

Here is a small film clip I made showing what the Doctor is all about.

This Surfski World Cup Ocean race series is the bomb.

I kind of wonder though how the outrigger canoes fit in . Are the outrigger paddlers vying for the money or racing in a totally different catagory for different prizes.

The money is starting to get pretty good in these surfski events .

Will there ever be a World Cup outrigger series like this ?

Hi Fuzerider

Divisions for all craft with prizes for all division. There will also be a staggered start, sort of a handicapped race with the slowest divisions going off first, with a bonus cash prize of $1,000 for the first craft of any division across the line.

Cheers

Yes Fuzey, the SS Series World Wide is progressing all the time. I think it's good that other craft can tack on until outrigger can support a series of its own of this size. Molo Solo is a positive move with separate races for both craft.

I will be shooting Karel and others at this event from either Jet Ski or our own media boat as well as GoPro's on the Zephyr, so if "The Doctor is in" the footage should be awesome.

Jr's surfing ability in a canoe is just not fair. I guess earlier this week when we had some crazy rain Jr and friends took out their 4 man and were surfing the Kailua Canal as it met with the ocean (like they do at Waimea bay). Something like 2-3 minute rides.

Ramy , those go pro cameras are pretty nice but, I still prefere to watch paddling events filmed by helicopter with a stabilized lens and big telephoto capability. Really good shots could be had from the back of a jetski too as long as you keep your wake out of the picture. Good soundtrac adds huge to the production.
I hope your jetski has some power or all youll get of Jr. is his back once chine effect takes place.
And speaking of Jr. , It
s about time some video was taken of him doing what he does best . I`m sure there are alot of paddlers around that would like to watch him ripping it up offshore with some good tunes playing.

I guess you didn't see Jr.'s segment on the PA"A Solo dvd. There was one particular shot where it looked like his escort boat was having a hard time keeping up with him. If you don't have it yet, you need to get this dvd. I think it's available thru Island Paddler...

Fuzy, you might enjoy the short video i did recently at the Cookies http://www.ocpaddler.com/node/4542

No helicopter shots, but stable up close footage from a Jet Ski in Hi Def.

Hey Fuzy....Manny K. has a video out from the Molo Solo...there is a entire section on Jr. The bruddah is in a league of his own. DVD cost $$, but proceeds help PAA, so its worth it.

Don't know how to get hold of Manny. My friend had a copy and I was able to watch his. It is worth the $$$, whatever it costs. It also highlights Lauren B. as well for all you ladies out there. DVD is about 40 - 45 minutes long.

Merry Christmas.....Jaws......

Ditto, the Pa'a Molo Solo has some awesome footage in it, we played it in a Cinema here in OZ and it's great on a big screen.

Cecil B DeRamboscie, the greatest outrigging pirate filmaker of our time!!!!!!!!!
Fuze, he got me and quite a few other guys hooked on making our own little films of our adventures but nothing to compare to the master.
But Rowdy has a certain gift as well, check out this little number, can you spot Rambo and I on the left.
