Cold and Dark

So, as Luke has said, its cold and dark. But when the going gets tough, the tough get going. Apologies for the amateur video, its my first try.

You know what skills are a good thing to have but when push comes to shove, and you need to get into the wave a good boat can help.

#3 Sun, 12/28/2008 - 5:50pm

Good skills ... nice Canoe and paddle.

#4 Sun, 12/28/2008 - 6:09pm

#5 Sun, 12/28/2008 - 6:21pm

Maui. This was shot yesterday, on the Maliko run, a downwinder from Maliko Bay to Kahului harbor.

#6 Sun, 12/28/2008 - 6:33pm

Ohh man , Jibofo That was so cool .wish I was there.

#7 Sun, 12/28/2008 - 7:28pm

If you come for a vacation, bring honey donuts.

#8 Sun, 12/28/2008 - 8:08pm

Jibofo, now you just need to tackle a Keanae to Kahului run on a good day.

Never mind the honey donuts, last time i was on Maui i brought 5LBs of Tim Tams from Australia for Rick Nu'u and his wife at the Hawaiian Canoe Club, can't buy them in Hawai'i. You suck coffee thru them and eat what's left.

Cheers Rambo

That looks much more fun than my paddle tonight. 40 degrees, pitch dark, and flatter than a piece of glass. I actually tried to catch the wake from a bird that was startled from sleep by my boat. Oh, yeah, it was low tide and I got stuck in the mud flats for a couple of minutes.
Cold and dark sucks!

#10 Mon, 12/29/2008 - 7:13pm

Yeah, deb keeps trying to get me out for that run. Just waiting for really good wind. Bring extra Tim Tams for us if you're in the vicinity again.

#11 Mon, 12/29/2008 - 7:19pm

hey rambo,

those timtams are awesome. unfortunately they have lost their novelty here in hawaii. longs drugs has started selling them in all their stores. my wife used to bring then home from sydney all the time. now there's no reason to.

dammit. i used to be able to trade those chocolate buggers for all kinds of good stuff.

#12 Mon, 12/29/2008 - 7:55pm

Rambo!.....Stop telling them our secrets......With Tim Tams.....we were set to take over the WORLD!!!

Hey jc9_0......Let us know how they go at Longs..........Starbucks got kicked out of Oz, the market never warmed.............I wonder if Tim Tams might suffer reprisals................nah, no way!

#13 Tue, 12/30/2008 - 5:17am

timtams are at Longs!!!! or just Longs at Nuuanu?
oh yeah going straight there before Maliko today, tanks jc9_0.

#14 Tue, 12/30/2008 - 8:38am

Hey,
How have you attached your camera?

#15 Tue, 12/30/2008 - 8:47am

GoPro makes a suction cup mount. Seems bomb proof.

#16 Tue, 12/30/2008 - 8:52am

And then for back-up do you have it on a leash or float?

#17 Tue, 12/30/2008 - 10:21am

I haven't backed it up. Rambo backs his up, but said its never come off. I had it mounted on the very nose, so it was getting slammed on every wave and it never budged. But a simple line for a leash would be no hassle and cover any eventuality.

#18 Tue, 12/30/2008 - 10:25am

You should have kept that to yourself Jc, now there will be a stampede at Longy's and no stock for a month.... hahaa.....

Deb, don't do it ... they're addictive!!

Rambo

#19 Tue, 12/30/2008 - 11:12am

A blurb from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tim_Tams has this about who sells them here in Hawaii so it is not exclusive to Longs Drugs. Also, it's still new since they just started selling in November.

They also sell it outside of Hawaii under their Pepperidge Farms brand name at Target which also started in November.

The last time I actually had them were back in 1994 and 1995 when we stopped in Perth for Liberty before returning to the US.

Hawaii is the only state in the U.S. that has been selected by the factory in Australia to distribute the genuine Arnott's branded Tim Tams. Sales of Tim Tams in three flavors, Original, Classic Dark, and Chewy Caramel, began in Hawaii in November of 2008 and can be found at R. Field, Don Quijote, and Longs Drugs stores among other places.

Several retail and mail order companies sell Tim Tams in the United States, sometimes under the brand name "Arnott's Originals".[citation needed] Outside of Hawaii, Campbell's, parent company of Arnott, has made two flavors of Tim Tams, Chocolate Créme and Caramel, available under its Pepperidge Farm brand and own distinct packaging exclusively at Target Corporation for a limited time starting in November 2008.[6] Tim Tams were sold on a trial basis in supermarkets in 2001 under the brand name "Double Trouble".[citation needed]

In regards to the video, pretty cool run.

Rambo, what 11 timtams in 5mins, because they're deliciously irresitable, posted on the side of a canoe at hamil! better then a beer shooter ad for the superbowl!

#26 Tue, 12/30/2008 - 12:48pm

#27 Tue, 12/30/2008 - 12:55pm

So what's that Molokai race, paddle, chug a beer, paddle, chug a beer, etc. Now we can have, paddle, slam down a pack of TimTams, paddle slam down a pack of TimTams. Now that's racing.

#28 Tue, 12/30/2008 - 12:58pm

This is actually one of their Ads.

Tim Tam Slam --From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Tim Tam Slam is the practice of drinking a beverage by sucking it through a Tim Tam, an Australian chocolate-covered biscuit, with both of the ends bitten off.

Ideally, the inside of the biscuit should collapse but the outside should remain intact. Just before the biscuit falls apart, it is placed in the mouth. The thicker chocolate coating on the Double Coat Tim Tam offers a more stable structure to help ensure that the biscuit does not collapse prematurely - refrigerating them also helps to preserve the outside structure while allowing the inside of the biscuit to melt. The Chewy Caramel variety also has an advantage for performing the TimTam Slam since the caramel centre helps to hold the biscuit together for a slightly longer time. The Arnott's company prefers the name Tim Tam Suck and ran an advertising campaign promoting it under this name.

A Tim Tam Slam has been performed by Natalie Imbruglia and host Graham Norton on the So Graham Norton television series in the United Kingdom. American actress Jennifer Love Hewitt also performed one live on Rove McManus's Australian talk show Rove Live after professing her love for the biscuit.

#35 Tue, 12/30/2008 - 8:04pm

Nice Vid Jibofo.
Those Tim Tams can get a bit messy, I usually get carried away and suck the guts out of them till the biscuit falls in my lap.

#36 Thu, 01/01/2009 - 12:23am

Longs here is going to wonder what is going on with the sudden rush on Tim Tams.

#37 Thu, 01/01/2009 - 7:07am

No complaints from me about cold. Water is 77 degrees and air is in the low 80s. That's a good 30 degrees warmer (water and air) than what i've been used to at this time of year. Going to be a long time before I start complaining about the cold here.

#39 Fri, 01/02/2009 - 3:44pm

Yes, was green with envy, not blue with cold, when I checked out the vid!!!
