rambo, hopefully you get some similar footage of jr in your upcoming race...

Man this is the stuff we need to promote to the world, that video was all about CONTENT and it had it in spades. I definitely wanna shoot the Solo this year from water level, a chopper just don't capture that sensation of speed.
Manny, expect an email soon.

No worries here, Rambo will top what we've seen so far - no doubt about that. :)
You're right Rambo, these videos will promote the sport.
Flatwater OC paddling should get some more exposure, too. Many people live in areas without constant trade winds.

thats probably the single best video ive ever seen as far as giving you an idea of how fast you really move in those conditions.
Well, not me but you know what I mean.

Was Danny paddling a Pueo with a different kind of ama in that footage?

He's paddling a Pueo with a Kainalu ama. This race was pre-the new awesome Pueo ama

They didn't come out with the new (straighter) ama for the Pueo until after the PA'A Kaiwi which is where the footage is from.

I'm interested in hearing what people think about that new pueo ama. I suspect this forum might be slightly partisan, but there must be some opinions +/- .

All the kaimana's had an ama that was similar to the one in the video. It had a similar shape with less volume and a little less rocker in the tail. That ama was up graded to the one in the video with above said details.
The ama that was created now was designed to be the most efficient ama ever designed. I was lucky enough to try it out while it was still in the design stage. My first thoughts were that it looked odd, and then when on to think it feels odd. Now that I have put some miles on the boat/ ama I can calmly say that it is one of the most user friendly pair on the market.

The new ama is definitely more forgiving then the puffier one. When you lean left it doesn't plow as much, if at all.

I agree w/ Tpop and Painteur, the ama has way less drag, which makes it easier to get up to speed. I tried it for just a few miles, and could accelerate it to a higher speed more quickly than on other boats. Very "user-friendly". How many boats do you try where you're instantly at a personal best?

I've had one opportunity to try the Pueo (with the new ama) and although the ama may look as flat as a 4x4, it did not plow like my bixler could with an inattentive port side paddle stroke. It did not "stick", and felt well balanced. So initially, I am intrigued. I'd like to get a feeling for it in the surf though as I love to surf and work downwind runs. I think it's refreshing to see a "new" design come to the market of OC-1 products that are so often similar and borrowed (or stolen!) from year after year. My impression of the Pueo in general was that it was responsive, had very little rocker (ama and hull), and that it had a lot of volume in the front for its size class (peggy, hurricane, etc). Being a bigger guy, this volume gave me a confidence downwind that I don't feel in the Pegasus (which pearls in surf for me easily). But the lack of rocker makes me wonder how it performs in swelly following sea conditions compared to others. Hopefully I'll have another opportunity to try one again in some good seas. Congratulations to Kamanu for bringing something new to the marketplace!
