Canadian Paddle Video

Hope this works. I remember a New Year's tradition (I think it mostly applies to Chinese New Year, but I'm willing to try it anyway) that says whatever you do on New Year's Day, you're bound to repeat throughout the year. It's an old school camera, so it didn't go on the water with me (I'm working on getting a GoPro, Rambo!). I had to do all the camera work myself as my wife refused to leave the house, especially to go paddling!

EXPLICIT LYRICS WARNING! The video contains a song, by The Young Canadians, that contains the f-word. I had to use the song as nothing else conveyed the mood. I mean no disrespect.

Enjoy, I hope

Nice work Don, I noticed you went old school on your canoe, where is the Fuse... probably wrapped up in a blanket like my Zephyr....
Looks like -10ish.

Great Video.

Just for a reference point, how long did it take to edit your video?

Are you at the novice, intermediate or expert level in terms of video knowledge?

Kanu The Rock

Don, Fantastic! You put me to shame, I am not even paddling these days (its frankly too dangerous for the hands here). Snowshoeing though...

Aloha Don!!
Mahalo for sharing the video, true passion bule............Live Aloha even in the coldest winter!!!!!

JC9_0. The snow was settling on to the water and creating a kind of "slushy effect" in places. It was totally silent except for the slushy bits. Definitely not jet-ski weather, which is a huge plus.

Jibofo. As I was filming this, my wife cracked under the pressure of too much winter and booked us to Maui.

Just Paddle. I went old school because it's a cockpit boat and my feet stay warmer. I didn't want to have to duct tape the footwell drains on my Fusion. Plus paddling rudderless is my winter project.

Kona J. I am a novice, with an intermediate attitude. I did it using iMovie, and spent a lot of time teaching myself how to use iMovie 08, only to realize I should have used iMovie 06 (it has much better features, including slow-motion). So then I had to figure that one out. It took me 2 nights for a couple hours.

Nice composition. Cool touch when you paddle out of frame only to come back in and then the fade into infinity.
Sundance entry :-)

Nice video! It was 53 w/ howling s. winds in Seattle today. Fun downwind on Lake Washington. You should come down one of these days!

Nice job Kahuna. I will stop crying about paddling in the SF Bay now.

#16 Wed, 01/07/2009 - 3:15pm

Tell me about it, I posted the Youtube link to my facebook page today and all my SF paddler friends are talking about how we should quit our whining. Someone always has it better than you, and someone always has it worse... Nicely done, Don!

Great vid, Don. I had the same notion to go out New Year's day, but 33 degree water and 35 mph winds had me sitting at home. You've got a stronger will than I.

Kahuna, if conditions are good when you're here, we'll have to do a Maliko run.

And when you get back ring me for a paddle, I bought a good sauna suit this year
