Karel in Australia

Has anybody gotten any reports back from Karel and his race in Perth? By checking the results, it looks like either equipment or course might have played a part in his finishing time.

No mention about trouble, they were happy with an average speed close to 13 km/h.

Looks like he was first in oc1. Lots o fast surfskiers! Wow, 16.7 km/hr for the winner-simply amazing!

12.3 km/h = 7.64 mph

faster than I could go. but just a bit short of the 20 mph speed limit of the chined hull. there must not have been much wind.

Still pretty fast, especially if it was flat. Under 8 minutes per mile.

if the surfskiers were reaching their top speeds, it would seem that the conditions weren't that bad.. and the surfski.info site had conditions as "perfect".

rambo?

Hi All

Just got back from putting Rambo on the plane with all his footage. He got some really good stuff and knowing Rambo he'll put together a fantastic package with some good surfing footage of Karel. It wasn't perfect "Doctor" conditions with the wind and swell coming more out of the south than the south west, so the conditions were coming at a 45° angle over the right shoulder. The skis loved the conditions, as seen by the times, but it wasn't the perfect downhill condition for Karel and OC1's to keep up with them. There were also some huge bush fires on the mainland the day before the race so on race day you couldn't make out the mainland through the smoke haze until the paddlers were at least 3/4 of the way across, so staying on course was also a challenge.

Rambo got some great footage of Clint Robinson in the closing stages of the race, he was on fire and pumped it was awesome to see.

So we'll wait and see what Rambo comes up with, we got lots of good action footage of Karel from the boat from all angles plus his two wide angle cameras on the canoe. It should be good!

Cheers

Barts
