Kamanu Composites visiting Vancouver, BC

For all the Canadian and PNW paddlers who'd like to test-paddle a new Pueo, and/or meet and greet Kamanu Composites builder/designer Keizo Gates, make sure to come down to the Jericho one-man race in Vancouver, BC, this Saturday, Jan. 24. We'll have two new Pueos and a Kaimana. Photos w/Keizo will be $85.70 apiece... that's in Canadian dollars.

Also, goto and jc9_0 will be tagging along.

i of course will be observing how paddlers in the rear of the pack in canada do their thing.

this will enable me to compare how these back of the pack paddlers resemble myself, a rear of pack paddler in Hawai'i. i will document all of this with two No-Pro brand eyeballs with 100% true to life resolution. the stories of my exploits will then be inflated 200 fold for everyone in this online community to enjoy. it may take me up to 6 months to edit my thoughts. so don't get too excited. my brain is a jumbled mess on most days and video files are often misplaced. embarassing ones are conveniently forgotten.

lastly, i will attempt to cut glass with my nipples whilst paddling.

this will be fun and cold... but very fun.

i am at a loss. do they not realize how much time and money i have put into my travel plans? a round trip ticket to Seattle from Honolulu isn't cheap. dammit. what about all the people that have booked travel?

now i am forced to take a vacation in freezing ass Seattle with nothing to do. at least if i was going to Hawai'i for a race i'd be in....Hawai'i.

hey jc9_0

since you're in the area anyways, if you feel like escaping freezing seattle, you could still come up to freezing vancouver for a visit. i'm sure there will still be people paddling saturday and sunday.

I suggest you guys head up to Vancouver anyways and get mulus to take you to Deep Cove for honey donuts. Makes the whole trip worthwhile.

Well I'm in Seattle now. And I'll say this. It is certainly cold.

Vancouver Saturday 24th...the expected windchill did not appear.
It was a lovely -3 Celcius/26F and sunny blue skies!
Perfect for paddling...in a cold and flat sort of way :)
Would have been a good chance to see all the different paddle clothing layering ideas we have for winter wear on the water here.
And a perfect day to head up to Honey's afterwards...I have a weakness for the maple iced donuts...mmmm....

Goto or Keizo or whoever,

What is the current production capacity of Kamanu? From the number of Pueos I see on the the Oahu results, I am guessing they are up to 4 or 5 boats a week.

Well, we didn't make it to Vancouver and the "lovely 26F" paddling weather, but jc9_0, keizo, and I all froze our butts off paddling around Seattle in lovely 34F paddling weather instead...

Nice pic there fellas. I kind of miss the cold paddles...kind of. Hope you all capped the day off with a frozen treat at Jamba Juice.

she was a fun. but also very cold. we were treated to snow showers later that day.

what really helped me to warm up afterwords was a triple shot coffee beverage and a bunch of crab, clams, and salmon.

can't wait to go back next month. but also very glad i live in Hawai'i

jc9_0,

Is that a Kainalu or Kaimana you're on? No "wings" and the hull plug is further back.

Either way, nice picture and scenery.

Eh Paddlers: for that kind of water, you don't need a rudder. More better you hemo the rudder and paddle without it like the indians do over there? And while you are over there, try bring back some annodize tubing? kden

#16 Mon, 01/26/2009 - 11:17am

she was a Kaimana. she was not my boat, so i did not feel comfortable with hemo-ing her rutter.

While you may still be up there, try go look at one Nelo double kayak, maybe this super fast flat water boat my do well in the small bumps as one outrigger? Probably only Johnny can paddle that boat without ama? Wish I had the money for convert one into one ski?

That's a great idea, koacanoe. Which model were you talking about? This one maybe? Looks fast...http://www.kayakpro.com/kp/nelokayaksusa/wwwhtml/contents/tour_k2wate.htm
