Paddling Movie Recommendations

As a promotional activity for my club and to showcase the culture surrounding canoe paddling Polynesia, I'm trying to set up a movie screening at my university of some paddling movies. I am hoping to show one on the voyaging canoes like the Hokule'a and one showing modern outrigger racing. I have the PAA Ka'iwi 2008 DVD which I think would be great and be enjoyable for non-paddlers, but it would be nice to show one featuring six man canoes. Does anyone have recommendations for movies that would be easy to locate featuring six man racing? I'm guessing the two shows Terry produced for the Moloka'i Hoe and Na Wahine are good bets, but I haven't seen either yet. So, recomendations?

I found this PBS special on voyaging canoes but I'm sure there have been at least a few other movies or documentaries made on voyaging. Can anyone provide some recommendations that would be accessible and enjoyable for a general audience? Thanks!

I really enjoyed the one hour videos of the BANKOH Na Wahine and Molokai Hoe that were broadcast in the early 90's through just past the mid 90's. Year to year, they followed basically the same format, but the narratives were very informative and interesting. The sound track matched the mood of the segments shown and different narrators gave a unique perspective of the race based on their experiences. Perhaps Bank of Hawaii might have these old videos, and someone with the time and resources could produce a box set of dvd's of these great videos?

To access the BANKOH Na Wahine archives you should probably start by contacting KHON TV. They are the ones that produced them over the years. Try giving them a call and talking to their propmotions department. Their number is 808 591 2222 .It would be great if someone there could find them....last I saw they were just sitting on a shelf in a storage room. Anowara...send me a private message and I might be able to hook you up with a show about six man canoe racing. Some friends of mine and I put together a show that we shot at the ill fated State races on Maui about 10 years ago. It aired on KHON. I'll see if I can find it in the garage.

Just looked around in the attic and found the 1/2 hour show we produced and the '98, 2000 and 2001 Molokai Hoe tapes. Anyone have any knowledge on the legality of posting something like that on You Tube?

VLT. it's OK to post those, just leave the ones from the donkey show in the attic!
