PA'A Race

Wind speed prediction is 30 mph east for this week end. Is it difficult to get into the canal with that much wind ?

No worries gang, nothing can beat the closed out conditions of Kailua Bay during the first ever exclusive one-man race held in November 1992. This was the Eric Poohina Race and the wind made it very difficult to carry your canoe to the beach from Kailua CC halau. Classic stormy weather conditions prevailed and no one was on the beach. The waves were huge and a few boats got damaged going parallel to the waves. The canal leg was a respite until you had to go out again. All and all, it was a fun race under epic Kailua Bay conditions.

Yes, there is a video of this somewhere, for Eric had it professionally taped. So if you see the gentleman out on his 3-man, please have him post it on Youtube, etc.

Wind was about 18 mph tonight - good conditions.

Rudderless demo with the Tahitian paddlers was going on.

Tomorrow's wind are predicted to top 30 mph, worse than expected for Sunday.

Someone mentioned that the race might be held at Hawaii Kai in case it is too windy.

Aloha Gang,

Sunday’s Pinky’s Race will take an alternate course from Hawaii Kai to Ala Wai. With increasing tradewind strength, race coordinators feel it would be unsafe for paddlers and safety boats to cover the original course on the windward side. Besides the wind, a large east swell makes conditions hazardous at the entry of the Pinky’s canal. Hope you can all still join us for a smoking Hawaii Kai Run.

Registration on Sunday will be at Hawaii Kai Boat Ramp 7:30am - 9:15am
Long and Short Course: Hawaii Kai to Anuenue Canoe Club site (next to the finish of the Molokai Hoe)
Pre-race Meeting at 9:15am
Awards and Lunch to follow at the finish
Open to OC1, OC2, SS1, Paddleboard, and SUP
Entry Fee $25
Leashes required

Please do not park out of parking stalls. DO NOT DRIVE OR PARK ON THE GRASS!! This is so we don’t lose our privelages to use the Boat ramp area for our races.

We wil try to resume our Pinky’s Race next week on Sunday April 22, weather permitting. Details to be announced next week.
