Marcus P Rambutan

So where do you live dumbwaka alias Marcus P Rambutan......... your name is not in the NZ white pages directory and has never appeared on the paddling scene here.

He's probably from Hawaii, judging by the "anti Hawaiian oc1" nature of your posts. I'd also guess that it's a nome de plume, if you will.

Nah! don't think he is from Hawaii..........no reason for anyone in Hawaii to get

The guy who I think is dumwaka, is also a liar, so it figures that he would use a false name.

...............no reason for anyone in Hawaii to get that pissed by what I say about sit-on outriggers.

Was what the above message should have read

"Oh! what a tangled web we weave,
when first we practice to deceive!"

well goodwaka sometimes, you cut down the siton canoes pretty bad, and sometimes i get the feeling when i read your comments that you feel people in hawaii are inferior to you. just because they like to ride canoes w/rudders.

i'm not dumbwaka, but in my opinion i do feel it is someone from hawaii.

isnt rambutan a fruit, like a lychee?

#5 Thu, 02/12/2009 - 9:49am

i think it is a type of lychee...

#6 Thu, 02/12/2009 - 10:17am

i dunno they both are mops, especially after paddling.

I apologise to any Hawaiian for my poor writing ability........ to any Hawaiian who thinks that what i have written inferes that they are inferior for paddling ruddered sit-ons.

What I meant to say is basically what koacanoe is saying, except that koacanoe has not yet tried to paddle his short sit-on in rudderless competition over any distance.

To all those paddlers living in Hawaii and paddling whatever they choose, to suit local conditions......... you know what you are doing and deserve no criticism. But to the marketing reps who are trying to sell so called Hawaiian canoes to the rest of the world........ I stand by what I say.

well that makes more sense, ithink most people get offended in the first place because they're very passionate about what they do. just like you are. and ofcourse when passions fly, someone's bound to get upset.

When you call it a "so called" Hawaiian canoe thats a little insulting to those of us that paddle sit on top canoes.

Could the definition of hawaiian canoe be a canoe made in Hawaii?

Or even a canoe from Hawaii?

There's no marketing scheme. OC1 is the craft that has evolved from the desire of paddlers who live in Hawaii to go solo. They work well, people like to paddle them, and the rest is history. There has been no purposeful campaign to depict the oc1 as something that's more traditional than other craft. They are canoes that are made in Hawaii (sometimes). If you don't want to call them canoes, then don't, no one really cares anyway. If you really want to lay claim to Polynesian culture, maybe you should start by cutting out all the snarky commentary. The way I have come to understand it, growing up in Hawaii, that type of rhetoric is the antithesis of what Polynesian culture is all about.

Hey, i did not start this thread to carry on a discussion about what everyone thinks about the credibility of sit-on outriggers being distinctly Hawaiian...........Ive had enough.

Promise to write no more thoughts on the subject.

Just figured that this Marcus P Rambuca line was a fraud, and thought it worth checking out.

#13 Thu, 02/12/2009 - 2:53pm

Well you really got to the bottom of that one, didn't you?

#14 Thu, 02/12/2009 - 4:16pm

Is this like matter and anti matter, put the two together and you get a release of energy and then nothing is left.
goodwaka + dumbwaka = ?

#15 Thu, 02/12/2009 - 8:58pm

Cant be. Cuz apparently their still here.

#16 Thu, 02/12/2009 - 9:29pm

You're right Good:
For I get no chance against the rudder guys. Even when I take off the rudder from the "sit on" long boat (lagoon style), I can only stay up with the rudders for 1/2 mile until I hit the blinking buoy in a Hawaii Kai race. Then, I got to fight the current and wind for 5 miles until diamond head where I go inside the surf and paddle over shallow reef (no can do that with rudder) to the finish line. And the only rudderless race I entered using my short "sit on" boat, I broke my paddle at the start, and had to beach canoe, run to the car, grab spare paddle, run back and go chase the pack. Auwe!

Anyway Good:
I know you mean no harm, and it is just the way you express yourself, which may rub some paddlers the wrong way. But we are all here because of a common interest. We all come from various cultural backgrounds and have different frame of references, which may produce miscommunication and misunderstanding. So please be patient with us. Mahalo.

So I go away to paddle and do other stuff..... thinking that yeah, dumbwaka is exactly who i suspected.

Thoughts about getting in a cage to fight with him are sweet, but hey, he's just a sick old man and a liar on top of it all.....it's bad enough he has to live with himself.

Koa, keep up the spirit.
You paddle anything that can get you out on the water, you have swell rolling in from the E... good bumps, and warm water........things are different here, but hey, we can adapt and have it good too.
