Check this out. Hawaii Kai to Kaimana can be dangerous when the wind kicks. This couple found that out the hard way. Got to stay tuned to conditions and limitations. Good thing they had a cell phone or they would have ended up on a Kauai Honeymoon. Or better yet Decker or Midway Is.

funny thing. people don't realize they can just lay down. then paddling upwind is really easy.

what? you can't lay down on a stand up board. Thats just ridiculous.

I never paddled a SUP board. Aren't they kinda wide to lay down and paddle?

I think he is either joking, or means that against strong winds like that when your just getting blown out, sit down so as not to act like a human sail. Might not be comfortable or proper but beats a cab ride from 3 miles out!

but if you lie down on a SUP board, it is not longer a SUP board!

Actually if you kneel on a SUP and use an OC1 paddle it's faster. Been proven. You now have the use of your legs and a longer faster stroke similar to the C1 Olympic kneelers.
One day some one will win a race doing this.
