Eh! Rambo: Mahalo for letting us know about this race. Right on Tbare, for sure I going try make em. As long as can use one Hurricane without rudder for the first race? Or still have to use those sit inside kind canoe for the first race? This way, no need two different canoes.

That's OK Koa, Thibert asked me to promote the race so i've posted it on my blog and other sites as well.

He states there will be a dedicated website for further info soon.

Apparently a lot of the top Tahitian paddlers have verbally committed to the race, so it will be interesting that's for sure.

We have only just started manufacturing ocean style Va'a here in OZ so paddling rudderless is new to us here, but Travis Grant and Greg long are keen to paddle Va'a.

How would you determine a pro paddler?

#8 Mon, 02/16/2009 - 12:01pm

As no one in this sport get's paid, I guess PRO would be up the race organizers, as it say's invitation only. Probably Elite might be a better word.

#10 Mon, 02/16/2009 - 2:49pm

Probably N. American river paddlers? They the only paddlers I know that call themselves "pros."

#11 Mon, 02/16/2009 - 4:21pm

would we have to ship up our va'a/ one man's or would there be a few boats there to borrow?

#12 Tue, 02/17/2009 - 11:30am

According to T-Bear, "Tiger" is supporting the Va'a growth on the Big Island, so he may have his new V1's ready for the race, only Tiger could confirm that.
