Unregistered Paddlers

You know it is a big ocean out there that can accommodate most of us paddlers, and it surely would be nice if those unregistered paddlers would please pull away early from the finish line and let the registered paddlers finish on their own. It just makes the timer and spotter jobs more difficult and delays the results. Of course you can paddle along side your friends out in the ocean, but please stay clear of the finish line.

People who bandit any sort of race (OC, bike, run, whatever) are scum. If you don't want to support the race, respect those who do.

Didn't realise it was such a problem over there. In Aus in a canoe race you will be DQ if you receive any assistance from a canoe not in the race so you wouldn't want to get caught on the wash.

Never seen anyone at a Regatta do it, it would be disappointing and a bit rude to do the race without paying.

Clarkie - Hawaii Kai run is a very popular course; people do it all the time. Some will be there at race time.
I have no problems with 'bandits', but you would hope that they stay away from the finish line as koacanoe says and are organized to look out for themselves while on the water.

I guess I no nothing about the area. When we paddle we are the only ones out there, but that will change over time. I guess it is a good thing the area is so popular and the Bandits see the race in action and maybe enter it next time!

Clarkie,
the HK run like the Maliko Run if it's good are a freeway of folks on OC1 & 2, Kayaks, & SUP. However during a race if one is aware that this event is going on should have the common courtesy to stay off the course. If not I just write it up to "Can't Understand Normal Thinking"
:)
