What did you do while the site was down - be honest??

I sat at the PC for hours refreshing my browser...... yep hopelessly addicted.

I was doing some work on repairing my Fusion. Which wasn't during the time I would be on anyway.

The normal time I'm on was just spending more time on another forum (not paddling related).

Rambo - I am offering a new service:

  • return to a message board within an hour after you left
  • avoid sleep to be able to attend message board
  • avoid family to be able to attend message board
  • avoid tasks to be able to attend message board
  • after entering house, go to PC to visit message board
  • after you get up, go to PC to visit message board, email or google
  • take your food while on the message board
  • visit message board whenever on the computer
  • read email more than once a day, once a week ?
  • read news on the internet ore than once a day
  • read news on the internet longer than 15 min day

..... :)

Only for those who are addicted, of course.

Sadly I had no choice but to go paddling.

Thank god Keizo got the site back up before I started to get in shape!!!

#3 Tue, 02/24/2009 - 3:06pm

Thanks for fixing the site Keizo.

How did the Molokai adventure go?? Hope you guys had fun. Molokai get some super duper runs along the south shore.

Jaws Out.

#4 Tue, 02/24/2009 - 3:09pm

I remember one time Molokai Ranch sponsored a relay race along the north shore of Molokai. The boys said it was smokin'.
As for the OP question, I went paddling while the site was down, I saw a bunch o' seals and a HUGE male Sea Lion in Puget Sound. Those buggahs are scary up close. Thanks for the new rudder, nb1376!

Eight feet long and 300 kilos or so. Can sometimes be grumpy if they think you're after their fish.

#7 Tue, 02/24/2009 - 4:59pm

When was the site down? In Jan. or Feb.?

#8 Tue, 02/24/2009 - 5:15pm

Keizo is like the Matrix!

I know he did a lot of paddling lately maybe too much and he crashed/bonked out and then guess what-His site crashed. that is a little spooky to me.

follow a bunch of really fast paddlers around in the ocean.

#13 Tue, 02/24/2009 - 8:15pm

Hilarious, Rambo, I am sure that there are quite a few 'closet ocpaddler loga onas', too distinguished to let go; for your question: how should I know - I have to rush from my most recent posting to get to the ocean ... :)

I will continue working on the new blog :), but just a little.

#14 Tue, 02/24/2009 - 8:57pm

Dodging whales on the Kohala coast. Probably saw close to a dozen in a 15 mile run over about 2 hours. 3 came right through our group. Later looked over my shoulder and saw 2 tails going under at about 150 yards and the rest were spouts. Incredible morning!

#15 Tue, 02/24/2009 - 9:03pm

If it really matters much....While OCP was down..... I just surfed on over to Rambo's Locker to see if the full 2009 Doctor Race action thriller was up for view. I wanted to see if the camera will divulge some new technique that I can employ on my latest afternoon runnings......

Nice one Marara.

Ecky, your new site is making me nervous. It's one thing to admit to addiction, but to have it analyzed right in front of your eyes is wracking my body with feelings of guilt.

Also, now i know why there are so many Pueo's being sold. Keizo must be threatening to shut down OC Paddler as a closing sales tactic. What power you hold in your hand oh King of the Net. ....haahah

Cheers Rambo

Maybe we'll seen an influx of baby paddlers in nine months, similar to the big New York blackout. ;)

#18 Wed, 02/25/2009 - 9:00am

Rambo - I will link to a questionaire - there you can either ease or burden you feelings of guilt. :)

For those that are interested, I have updated a blog:

http://wwwaddiction.blogspot.com/

I would welcome input /experience with this. If I know that anybody is following that blog, then I will update it with related info, thus, please let me know/use 'contact me' on that blog.

Rambo was not alone refreshing his browser :) at times.
Enough is enough.

I liked to post here, but I am sure that my children prefer that I spend my time differently.

#23 Wed, 02/25/2009 - 12:18pm

Thanks Ecky, now i have another website to get addicted too.

I spent the time building a giant display paddle out of some nice hardwood - Australian Spotted Gum.

It's as tall as I am...
full photo of paddle

This is the power face. Nice grain, huh?

The back face. I didn't know the flaws in the timber were there. Just got lucky they lined up like they did.

capnron,
beautifull blade!!!! what kine wood is that?
awesome and cogratulations for the fine art!
Aloha from Argnetina.
ps, you also give me hopes, i know i wont be able to make somthing like that, but at least i will try.....hahah!

#30 Sat, 02/28/2009 - 12:54am

Capnron,
Beautiful bit of work.
Spotted Gum what a wonderful timber.
My boat is all spotted gum + Iron bark keel.
When the boat builder and I were putting the transom together it had such fantastic grain and colour that I was tempted to clear coat it.
Practicality got in the way and it was painted like the rest of the boat.
A couple of years ago I blasted the boat back to bare timber and comments along these lines of clear coating it were raised.
Good spotted is a bit hard to get at times ,where is yours from. Most of mine came from northern NSW.
Benn

#31 Sat, 02/28/2009 - 3:24pm

Thanks Mariano. It's locally called Spotted Gum, Corymbia species. Normally used for house framing, railway sleepers, axehandles, etc.

Benn, I bought the timber rough-sawn from the local timber yard in Mossman, Far North Qld, so it probably came from central Qld. I was amazed at the nice grain but it's bloody HEAVY! The paddle weighs about 15 kg. How much does your boat weigh?!?

good boatbuilding timber, apparently. Rot resistant and tough as.

#32 Sat, 02/28/2009 - 9:40pm

Spotted Gum......nice work CapnRon, you picked up that the taxonomists have split it off from Eucalyptus to Corymbia....its a nerdy , sciencey thing that us Foresters couldnt give a rats about!

The King of Wood in Australia, Keith Bootle says the following........

(I love it that the best Aussie's are called Keith!)

Naturally occurs along the east coast of Aus from Victoria to Maryborough district in Queensland. Texture coarse, grain variable; frequent presence of wavy grain produces an attractive fiddleback figure. Slightly greasey nature. Gum veins common. Gross density around 1150kg/m3 (thats 72lbs/cubic foot); Air dried density around 950kg/m3. .......bla, bla, bla.........For all you booat builders out there.......Satisfactory for steam bending, not hard to work. Unseasoned wood corrosive to aluminium nails & screws. Bonding pressure needs to be about 1000kPa and temp above 20 degrees C....low moinsture content also desireable for good bonding.........High extractives content can be a problem with phenolic-type adhesives. Sapwood very susceptible to lyctid borer attack....Heavy engineering, piles, poles, shipbuilding, agricultural machinery, flooring, plywood........Its the main Australian species for handles subject to high impact forces, eg axe handles

So folks next time OCP is down...........dont go making too many paddles out of Spotted Gum unless you paddle for Lillyputt Outrigger Canoe Club & you've just recruited Gulliver!.........but seriously CapnRon, yours is a true masterpiece...a work of art!

Benn, your boat "Tidahapah" wont fall apart for a while.....If the Grey Ironbark is from northern NSW it'll definetly keep an archeaologist busy in a thousand year's time!......just about the hardest, toughest timber we got here in Aus......it'll last longer than any of Rambo's fences......hehehe......

Mahalo, Hooroo!
