Club boat repairs

Need some advice, Is there any way to repair small cracks in either the Iako housing or the rudder shaft housing without having to break the seam of the boat.

Someone asked about repairing their cracked rudder shaft tube and got some advice and posted it in the thread linked below. It could be used for repairing/accessing the iako housing as well.

Following their advise, I cut a 4.5 inch diameter hole in the top of the hull behind the rudder tube with a jigsaw (put masking tape over the deck before cutting to keep the jell coat from cracking), providing access to the inside of the canoe. Then put fiberglass and epoxy resin around the cracked tube. Then put a deck access hatch with a small storage bag (got from west marine) in the hole, sealed with silicon caulk and stainless steel screws and we are good to go.

You could also cut a hole (large enough to work from) to do the repair and use the piece you cut as the cover instead of using deck access hatches.

Cheers Guys

As I thought it's not a easy job. This is only a few of the problems with the club boats but you have given me some ideas.

Thanks Mike
