Depends, if you know the guy really good then maybe 50 for gas and a case of beer. If you kinda know the guy cause your friend is good friends with him then maybe 200 and a case of beer. If you hire some stranger that has never escorted before and has no clue what he's doing them maybe you'd pay like 300 or 400. If its some seasoned badass then maybe 400 to 800. If its some dude that seasoned, has hot girls/guys (depending on paddler) on his 30' boat along with a shiatsu therapist and sports psychologist them frick, maybe 2000?

My mistake, the numbers quoted above are in canadian dollars. In this economy on any given day with the exchange rate it could be a really good deal or a total rip off.

grovpb4 Unless you have a mate that will do it cheaper its going to be $750.00 US , thats what it was last year and all the drivers were the same, Sounds like your in the twilight zone as I was as a first timer last year, organizing the flights, hire of a canoe and accomodation and support boats is the hardest part of the whole experience, the paddling is a pleasure once youve got all the shit sorted , and yeah I understand how someone trying to be funny isnt the feedback that you were after.It almost feels like its designed to prevent you from entering unless you live in Hawaii and know how the system works.

Since when is paddling serious business? I leave serious at the beach, in my truck, in the glovebox, tucked away with a bunch of unpaid tickets. Come to think of it, don't think I do serious.

Last year going rate was $700-800 up to $1000+ dependent on vessel, equipment and experience of the driver. The slower crews sometimes have to pay more to convince someone to stay out there for 7+ hours!

If you look at the posts asking about escort boats in past years, not once has anyone ever replied wether serious or not.
Good ones are really tough to come by and most people on here that have them, use them, so not too many people gonna give up their captain and risk maybe losing them to a higher bidder.

Kevlon, yes, my humor is specifically directed at you. I am trying to prevent you from entering any Hawaii races that require an escort boat. This is my life purpose. And folks, just so you know, any humor on this forum is designed just for that purpose, to prevent you from entering any races here in Hawaii.
On a serious note, isn't that how it works everywhere not just in Hawaii or in just in paddling for that matter? If you don't know how the system works you usually pay more.

In response to your serious note,No it doesnt work like that everywhere else. in the last coupla yearsI have organised entering races in France, Tahiti and New Zealand from here and it couldnt of been easier even accounting for the language barrier(in NZ)

Some one took it very personal... about something you said... on a public forum... then went on insulting you and the US constitution... about something POOPOOPADDLER said on a PUBLIC FORUM...
I got an Idea how bout you don't insult people for having a sense of humor... and maybe you contact the race Director if you have any pertinent questions about the race that your traveling thousands of miles to go do... Not ask on a public forum that has posters who are known to poke jokes at anyone and everyone.

I guess its time he makes a reappearance. Poopoopaddler wasn't "vehemently" being serious about his humor, in fact he met his humor with humor and never got personal with his posts (unlike some other people.) Hmm its too bad people are so uptight these days.
In response to your organizing a successful event I applaud you. You did a great job, you set up the race, helped people UNDERSTAND THE SYSTEM so they had an easy time. You were an ORGANIZER of the race and was a legitimate source of information. Poopoopaddler is not. (actually there was truth to the post). There is a big difference between you and him.
Like tpoppler said, contact the race director or anyone organizing the race and they'll be happy to help you. Even if you don't speak english.
