Fishing Race ><(((">

Anyone here ever heard of a canoe race where you paddle and fish? You know those Bass fishing tournaments where the competitors go out in those over powered Bass boats , fish for a while and then go racing back to the finish as fast as they can go.... that would be cool to do on OC1s`

Yeah, I love the idea of metal hooks, thrashing fish, and 30 pounds of unstable equipment strapped to my $4000 carbon-fiber canoe ...while I'm trying to race. Awesome idea.

its called a tournament.

e02060 you're assuming you catch a fish.

I use dynamite, so I always catch fish.

not sure if dynamite and "blowing fish up" actually counts as fishing. We'll have to make an amendment to the tournament rules.

We also have to define what is accepted as "a fish"

Funny that we talking about fishing. This morning on the Today show before I came to work, they showed this guy who jumped out of a helicopter right unto a Marlin. He grabbed the Marlin by the sword and held on...wrestled it.

Was all on video....was unreal. I not kidding. You had to see it to believe it.

Hiro....the tahitians in the poti maraaraa's are crazy as well. Unreal how they track down and spear the mahi's in Tahiti.

JawsOut.

The mahi mahi won't dive, it just "run" staying close to the surface, so the fishermen just follow them until the fish is exhausted and then spear... can't do this with another fish, can't do this with a canoe...

A wonderful idea!

This would be a great way to broaden the canoe culture and engage the community of paddlers in a way that is not so much race oriented but more on the culture side! I can imagine something like this getting people excited about opelu style 4 man canoes. Maybe a traditional gear category where you paddle out with your crew trolling a hand line.

e02060, wait a minute, you're worried about hooks, a fish, and a few pounds of equipment around your boat and yet you use dynamite for fishing? I'm confused.

OK OK! I like to keep my professional and personal life separate, but this issue forces me to expose myself.

I have always wanted to keep this a secret. I am one of the most accomplished sports/salt water fisherman in Kona and all of Hawaii. I am 2 time HIBT tournament champion and Fly Fishing Ulua shore world-record holder.

I will allow Kamanu and Kaiwaa to bid for my services, so please send a new Scorpious and Pueo to Kawaihae immediately and I will decide which one to paddle in this paddling/fishing tournament. Just put Kona J on the Deliver to: box.
