1st Hawaii Island Youth Paddlesports Association Championship Race

Aloha all, as you know, HIPA is holding it's championships this weekend on March 28th however due to the conditions there will not be a junior course. However, the championship must go on! So, with the joint efforts of the H.I.P.A. Youth Program "Hui Palama" and Tui Tonga Youth Program, it will happen this weekend as well at Honokohau Harbor at Noon. We will be having the usual oc1 oc2 and surfski division as well as a shorter course for the paddleboard/stand up paddling youths under the ages of 17!! Any questions call Marjie (808) 864-8552. Mahalo!!

Todays junior championship race was the best race I I have seen this year. The children had a blast and it was great to see the support. The youngest participant was a four year old boy on a standup paddle board. Thank you to all the parents who came out and helped put on a fantastic race. Mahalo for all the donations. Every kid went home with lots of door prizes. Stay tuned for more info. There was a total 31 entries.

The jr's had a category at every HIPA race this year I believe. The HIPA website has a link to get added to their mailing list but Marjorie is the one to contact.

HIPA has a wonderful orientation towards the junior paddlers. I've seen paddlers of all ages supported during the season. If I am not mistaken I believe I actually saw a 9 year old (may be off on the age, but she was a youngin' !) on a SUP complete a course with a parent during '09!
