I've heard there are a bunch of different philosophies on the 'best' course to take for the Molo Solo race obviously pending conditions and so forth. Can anyone provide some general rule of thumb here. Best routes for different scenarios and conditions?
Any insight is much appreciated.

Because it is a race, you better cover your competion or else you're out of the race. An experienced escort crew should keep you on course at all times. If you can't cover your competition, or you're setting the pace, then maintaining a rhumb line of 270 degrees (or follow your GPS) while zig zagging no more than half mile above and quarter mile below the line. If it's blowing North East, I go high. If it is blowing East or South East, I go straight. And if it is blowing Kona, I go low. Main thing is to stay away from the "doldrums" as you approach Oahu off Sandy's. I always aim to come in at the "Cave," at Koko Head and avoid the "Doldrums."
