NICE! I bet you had fun. We would like a review of the beer in the Cook Islands and your thoughts on the ROC canoes. They look interesting.

Trader Jack shouted me only Rum and the local made ROC canoes are fast and surf well, bugga to turn though.

Thanks for the comments, i'm off on the Crossing for Cancer today, 17days of paddling. www.crossingforcancer.org

Well if you think the ROC is fast wait till you try the newest creation from Rarotonga - to be unveiled at the South Pacific Games and Vaka Eiva this year. A completely redesigned canoe, more volume through the hull, very subtle vee shape running almost the entire length of the canoe, higher gunnels, sits much higher in the water, and a brand new high volume ama, catching the bumps on this vaka is too easy, it surfs unreal. Here are some pics:

beautifull Va'a!!
she looks light.....130kg?

mahalos for sharing, i learned to paddle in Hawaii, and more used to the Hawaiian type hulls, but little by little, the Tahitian style shapes are growing on me. they make so much sence.

i listened a Tahitian Shaper once speaking about how he got inspired of SUBMARINES, he was saying about how nobody paid attention of what the canoe should be like on the DECK.
only the bottoms were the issue....

well. those NOSE sure seems to handels better on rough waters ah? and the SLEEK OKOLES?? for sure the canoe can glide better even on those cross wind steerman nightmare dayz.....

aloha nui!
Mariano.
